While we do not generally get involved in events of the world, this event is so important that I felt it necessary to weigh in on the subject. I am speaking of the situation of War with Iraq. Since there was a deadline given of March 17th, I felt that now was the time to state my feelings. With so much of the media speaking out against the war, I want to add some common sense to the argument. The views of the news media tend to be quite liberal and supportive of "no war." In my opinion now is not the time for division in our country. There has been a lot of focus on the demonstrations at the college and high school levels. While I agree that young people have a right to express their views, there is, however, a reason why the founding Fathers had an age limit on becoming President of the United States. It?s called maturity. Our founding Fathers knew that it would take living through life's experiences to quailfy one for leadership of this great Nation. Most leading news agencies are simply looking for the biggest money-making story and are ignoring the legitimacy of these young protestors. I ask this question, "How many companies hire college students to be CEO?s?" Do the executives of CNN, CBS, NBC, and ABC pull college students out of school to ask their advise on how to run their business? How many congressmen would willingly give up their seat to a recent college graduate who has no life experience? We all know that they would be foolish to do so. Why? It?s because these young people, who have every right to tell you what they think about how you are running your business, or how this country should be run, do not have the life experiences to make those decisions. Why then do these same people parade these young people out in the streets and cover them like bees on honey with their cameras, and then tell us that their opinions should influence us and even the leader of our country? Why do they play us for fools, and better yet, why do so many people look at these youthful demonstrations with credence? The news media also turn their cameras to Hollywood, wanting us to give weight to the opinions of the very people whose immoral lifestyles contribute to the situation our nation is in today. The Hollywood crowd who publicly ridicule anything conservative or moral are the very ones telling the world that our praying President is wrong. I challenge you that now is the time for everyone in this great nation to rally around our President and other leaders with prayer. While nobody wants war, nobody wants another 9/11. When the disaster of 9/11 happened, many people questioned why the President didn?t do something in advance to stop that tragedy from happening. Now that President Bush is trying to do something to stop an event like that from happening again, the liberal thinking in Washington is doing everything they can to block it. This war is not about oil, or getting someone elected, but rather about stopping the threat of terrorisim. We have been attacked once on our soil and it is just a matter of time before it happens again if we do not stop them first. Our young protesting friends have no idea what this probable war is about. It just happens to be the "in" thing to protest. We need to PRAY for our President, but also pray for the other politicians that they will stop this partisan bickering and work together for the good of the country. Pray also for our sons and daughters who are protecting this country, something that they and the President have sworn to do. May God bless and protect our troops as they defend this precious land that we live in. I am not asking anyone to be "pro" war. I am encouraging all to be "pro" United States. Support our country and our President even if you are against his decision. Let us present ourselves as a "United" country. Let us remember that if war happens, the first "shot" will not be the one that is fired in Iraq. The first shot was on American soil and happened September 11, 2001. I am calling on all Southern Gospel artists to include in their programs songs that will inspire this Nation to draw closer to God. Whether it is ?God Bless America?, ?My Country Tis Of Thee?, Statue Of Liberty?, or ?Nearer My God To Thee?, the words we say and the songs we sing can be used to patriotically move our Nation in the direction of seeking God. We have been called of God, and now is the time to be used of God.
