See the title of my column? That’s exactly how I feel about what I do for a living….I don’t even really consider it a job because Southern Gospel Radio is the coolest job in the world. We’re where the listeners meet the artists…where the advertisers meet the listeners…but most importantly….where everybody can meet Jesus Christ.
Over the next several months, I plan to share lots of things with you from my vantage point in Southern Gospel Radio…everything from testimonies to sales tips and other ideas.
But I firmly believe the most important thing is the spiritual side of what we do. Before any business can truly be successful, we’ve got to turn everything we have over to Almighty God. Certainly, God knows how to run our business much better than we do. I never cease to be amazed at how God has directed me to a new business to talk with them about advertising…how God has given me an idea for a commercial…how God has lead us to buy another station…and how God has told us not to move forward as well.
I want to encourage everybody involved with Southern Gospel Radio….from the employees and owners, to the listeners and artists….examine yourselves spiritually before you do anything else. Is your heart right with God? Are there some things in your life that you need to turn over to Him? Are you reading your Bible each day? Are you spending quality quiet time with God each day?
Psalm 37:4 tells us to “Delight ourselves in The Lord, and He’ll give us the desires of our heart.”
Also…be ready to share the Gospel. I am the only Bible that many of my clients read. Matter of fact, when I lived in Jackson, there was one business that would announce when I walked in the door, “Hey Everybody…the Christian is here.” If you’re a DJ…be ready to share the Gospel with that caller. If you’re an artist…be ready to share with that person at your concert. If you’re a listener, be ready to share with your friends when you tell them about your favorite Southern Gospel radio station.
Personally, I use the Plan of Salvation on Gold City’s website to share the Gospel with folks. http://www.goldcityqt.com It’s about the best I’ve ever seen it written out. I print it out and keep copies with me to give to folks I want to talk to. In just the last 3 weeks, I’ve been fortunate to lead 5 people to Jesus Christ through this.
To wrap this first column up….remember…to truly succeed in Southern Gospel radio….the sales and programming are not nearly as important as the spiritual side of what we do. Are you ready spiritually for the work in front of us?
