Southern Heritage- It’s An Everyday Thing
Producer: Nick Bruno and Robbie Hine Label: Grapevine Records Southern Heritage is a mixed trio based out of Century, Florida. Rose Gilley is joined by husband and wife, Ben and Deanna Brown to make up this fine group. They have chosen a classic Albert E. Brumley tune to kick off the project, “Bound for the Land of Canaan”. This song has a Cajun beat to it and really moves. It is well done until the key change and then it gets pitchy as they try to push their range. Deanna Brown sings the pretty ballad, “Angels Are Waiting”. The harmony on this song is much smoother as they keep the vocals stacked in a more manageable key. The title song of the album, “It’s An Everyday Thing” is a more traditional Southern Gospel song with a touch of Western Swing thrown in. Rose Gilley takes the lead vocal on this song which is very enjoyable. Rusty Goodman’s signature song, “Had It Not Been” is the next song on the project. Rose and Deanna share the lead vocals on this great song. “He’s Coming Back” is a hand clapper featuring Deanna Brown. This is another more traditional Southern Gospel tune. The group seems to excel at these types of songs. This one also features some interesting key changes. “Whenever, Wherever” is a nice three quarter time song with a strong down beat. This song once again features both Rose and Deanna. Southern Heritage can sing some Bluegrass Gospel as well. “Vision of Heaven” is a nice change of pace for the group and they do a great job on this McKamey’s remake. “Land Where Living Waters Flow” is a Mosie Lister classic. This cut picks the tempo back up and gets the feet to tapping. “Longing for Home” has a strong Country beat and features Rose who is also the composer. The group has included the Jeff Moran song, “Singing in the Heavenly Choir”. This song, originally recorded by the Kingdom Heirs, is a fun song and the group does a good job on it. “The Answer Is Prayer” is a pretty ballad written by Terry Wilkins. This song has some nice harmonies and Rose does a nice job on the lead vocals. They close the project out with a reprise of “Whenever, Wherever”. Southern Heritage has a solid sound with some good harmonies. There are a few spots on the project where they push their upper range but overall this is a solid project.
