M3 - Christmas
Producer: Ricky Free Label: Tracks recorded at The Sound Kitchen , Franklin, TN Vocals recorded at Daywind Sky Studio, Hendersonville, TN M3 as they like to be called, describes themselves on their webpage as a contemporary Gospel band with some pretty contemporary influences. I'd probably call them progressive Southern Gospel on Red Bull (that a power energy drink). They remind me a lot of what the Crabb Family was doing at the end of their career. It's pretty progressive, but not so much that Southern Gospel fans won't like them. The first two tracks, you get the feeling that the musicians were on steroids, but the vocals are very tight and the harmonies excellent. Crabb fans will love "O Come All Ye Faithful" and "Gloria". The whole CD somewhat settles down after those first two songs. "The First Noel" is sang just beautifully and the addition of Sam Levine in the Pennywhistle is a unique and brilliant touch. These three guys seem to have a niche for traditional Christmas tune because the also charmed me on "It Came Upon A Midnight Clear", as well as "O Holy Night". "The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year" was just plain fun. Two of the songs I really liked are back to back on the CD, "He Came Here For Me" is one of two non-traditional Christmas songs, and this on is very laid back and mellow with a wonderful message that comes through loud and clear. The other one I really liked was the "Hark The Herald Angles Sing/Carol Of The Bells -Medley". Great singing on both of these tunes. My favorite of all though is the very last song on the CD, where they get about as Southern Gospel sounding as they do on this project. In fact I think I may even hear a touch of Elvis in this cut.
