Greater Vision - Not Alone
Producer: Lari Goss Label: Daywind Records Website: http://www.greatervisionmusic.com Last year, Greater Vision released Everyday People - an album that recalled their time before they were the most awarded group in Southern Gospel music. Gone were the big orchestral arrangements - rather they were accompanied by the typical instrumentation found on most Southern Gospel recordings. Greater Vision has once again paired up with producer-extraordinaire Lari Goss for their latest recording Not Alone. And like all good Lari Goss recordings, Not Alone features fantastic arrangements, big orchestrations, and great vocal delivery. What makes this album so special is that Lari was going through cancer treatments during the recording of this album and did some of the production work via webcam through computers. The end result? Another highly enjoyable recording from one of Southern Gospel's most beloved artists. Also notable about this recording is that it is the first album with new tenor Jacob Kitson. Not Alone kicks off with the great up-tempo "I Want to Know That You Know" - which speaks of knowing our loved ones are saved. "You Were Faithful Yesterday" is a strong traditional number that Greater Vision has come to be known for. That song flows into "Meet Him at Calvary" seamlessly, probably due to the songs' similar melodies. "It Pays to Pray" is the albums first really big ballad featuring Rodney Griffin. This song is sure to be a Greater Vision classic, and it's one of the strongest Rodney Griffin-penned tunes of the couple years. Jacob Kitson shows off his impressive vocal chops on the beautiful "He Is Loved". Things pick back up on the radio-friendly "I've Been to the Bottom" - a definite album highlight. "The Source of My Song" is another fantastic tune from Greater Vision that would do well in concert. The album closes with another ballad - "You're Not Forsaken". Overall, Greater Vision has created another great record that fans of the trio are sure to love. All the ingredients are right this time around - but it still feels like something's missing. With the last album showcasing a side we haven't seen from Greater Vision in a while, Not Alone feels like the group is just going back to what's comfortable. Fans will for sure love that, but this reviewer would love to see the group stick their necks out a bit more and be more adventurous with their music. Greater Vision still has it no matter how you look at it. Song List: 1. I Want to Know That You KNow 2. You Were Faithful Yesterday 3. Meet Him at Calvary 4. It Pays to Pray 5. Share It With Jesus 6. God is good all the time & all the time God is good. Elaine Harcourt
I like the songs on this cd a lot...but one issue I have is that on "I Want to Know That You Know"...they say "I Wanna Know Thachew Know Thachew Know." You'd figure w/Gerald's polished style that that particular style of singing would be abolished...
