The Berry Brothers Let There Be Light

It’s hard to beat sibling harmony. Farmington, Missouri is the home of a great Southern Gospel trio of brothers, the Berry Brothers. This is their first new project in several years and it was well worth the wait. They have included 13 great songs that feature some tight harmony and exciting vocals.

“That Little Baby” kicks the project off with a blast and features tenor, Doug Berry. Doug is a very versatile singer and does a great job on this one. Many years ago, the group recorded several projects as the Berry Singers. They have reached back and done an updated version of one of their old songs, “Give Them All”. Featuring lead singer, Alan Berry, this is a highlight of the recording.

Doug takes the lead on the beautiful ballad, “Shepherds Call”. Doug sings this type of song well, laying back on the vocals and singing with a lot of feeling. “Praying Man” also features Doug and picks the tempo back up with a driving beat.

Steve Berry sings the baritone for the group and is featured on the title song, “Let There Be Light”. This song lays good for Steve’s voice and features some good harmony on the chorus. Marilyn Berry is featured on “I Bless Your Name”. Marilyn is the wife of Alan Berry and is a featured performer at their concerts. She has a very soulful voice and gives this project another memorable performance.

“It Looks Like Love” has a driving beat and features Doug on the lead vocals again. The Berry Brothers have a lot of the same vocal qualities of the Gatlin Brothers and that’s saying a lot. Alan Berry lends his smooth lead voice to a great ballad, “He Still Speaks”.

“My Home” features Leeta Berry, wife of Steve Berry. This is a country style ballad and includes the entire Berry Family. “He’s in Control” is a bluegrass style song with a little bit of Delta blues thrown in. This is a nice addition showing the versatility of the group.

“Just Another Rainy Day” picks the tempo back up and features Paula Franks. Paula is a family friend and member of their church praise and worship team. She sings this song well. “Long Arm of Love” has a driving Country beat and features Steve on the lead. They have chosen to close the project with a song that has been a signature song for Doug Berry, “Day Star”. This song is always a crowd pleaser and Doug sings it well.

A Berry Brothers concert is always packed with great music, a wide variety of material and a family experience. Not only can they sing but they will also keep you in stitches with their humor. If you are not familiar with these guys, you owe it to yourselves to find out more about them.
