The Heritage Boys – Sunday Drive
Producer: The Heritage Boys Label: Independent Website: http://www.theheritageboys.com Rolla, Missouri is home for a great male trio, The Heritage Boys. They have become known throughout the Midwest for their smooth vocals and close harmonies. Their latest recording, Sunday Drive, continues this tradition with some great material. They kick the project off with a fun song written by Dave Williford, “I’m Gonna Sing”. This song is sure to be a crowd pleaser and sets the pace for the project. Lead singer, Mike Morton, is featured on the Beverly Lowry and Marty Funderburk tune, “Song of the Lord”. Mike has a very pleasant voice and sings this song well. “While Endless Ages Roll” is a classic old quartet song and pays tribute to the heritage that has been passed down to this second generation group. The song kicks off with some special effects, making the recording sound like an older recording and then kicks into modern day. The track is cut with minimal accompaniment, keeping to tradition. Baritone singer, Bob Davis, has written a hand clapper that gives us many Biblical examples of how God used unlikely situations to meet needs. “He Can Use Me” features Bob on the lead vocals and is a highlight of the project. The Heritage Boys do a cappella songs very well. They have put together a great arrangement of the old standard, “Revive Us Again”. This is just fine singing. When you listen to this group, you can hear the influence of Greater Vision and it’s not unusual to hear a Rodney Griffin song. Bob Davis does a great job on Rodney’s song, “What God Says”. Sue and Belinda Smith have written a very moving song featuring Mike Morton. “Almost” speaks to the heart and is a powerful ministry song, perfect for leading into an altar call. “Satisfied” is a worshipful song, complete with some great ensemble work. Bob Davis and tenor, Mark Nash are featured on the verses. “When All is Said and Done” picks the tempo back up with a driving beat. This is an exciting song written by Sue and Belinda Smith and features Mike Morton. Bob Davis sings “Sing Before Your Cross”, written by Mark Mathes. This song asks the question; can you sing before the cross that may be ahead of you? How many of us could sing and serve others as Jesus did, if we knew what we were about to face? This is a powerful song. Mark Nash is featured on the closing song, penned by Dave Williford, “I’ll Pray for You”. Mark is a natural tenor and this song lays great for him. If you are a fan of traditional Southern Gospel trios, you will want to check this project out. The Heritage Boys are keeping the tradition alive and well and set the bar high for the next generation to follow.
