Dove Brothers Go To Prison
(Greenville, SC.) Charlie Waller has been an innovator in his career in gospel music. The Grand Ole Gospel Reunion, the making of Hovie Lister's last recording and the Quartet Legacy Tour to name a few.
On July 19th and 20th Charlie will be producing the first live gospel video taping from Angola State Penitentiary near Baton Rouge, Louisiana - which will feature the Dove Brothers. Charlie has just returned from a tour of the prison and meetings with prison officials making the final arrangements for the taping.
Charlie said. "Warden Burl Cain has been one of the most cooperative individuals I have ever worked with". The meeting with Warden Cain was made possible by Charlie's friend Jerry Landers who is now retired from the Georgia Department of Corrections and is a avid fan of the Grand Ole Gospel Reunion.
Once called "the bloodiest prison in America," the Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola has emerged as one of the most progressive and well managed prisons in the entire United States. The New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary at the Louisiana State Penitentiary in Angola had 121 inmate students enrolled in the Fall Semester of 2003. Inmates enrolled in the seminary have the option of graduating with an Associate Degree or a Bachelor's Degree in Christian Ministry.
The video will present a live concert by the Dove Brothers Quartet as well as talent from the Angola Prison. McCray Dove said, "It will be interesting to carry quartet singing inside the walls of Angola and be the first quartet to ever record a live video from a prison of this magnitude. I only hope Charlie can get us out of there as fast as he got us in"!
