Southern Gospel Lends A Hand To St. Judes Childrens Research
Recently, many people from the world of southern gospel music, gathered for a very worthy cause. On Saturday August 7th 2004, at the Georgia Mountain Center in Gainesville Georgia, many well known gospel groups, radio personalities, and over 3,000 southern gospel music fans helped raise money for the St. Jude Childrens Hospital.
Among the groups participating were, The highly talented MELODY TRIO, recent SGMA Hall of Fame inductee Ed O'Neil and THE DIXIE MELODY BOYS, The legendary NAOMI AND THE SEGOS, The ANCHORMEN QUARTET, and the host group, EASTERN BOUND.
"Talent coordinators and concert promoters Stanley Pierce and Gerald Sweatman of Eastern Bound work hard on this every year" said Naomi of Naomi and the Segos. "We were thrilled to participate in this years event and thankful to help with such a worthy cause" stated Ed O'Neil of the Dixie Melody Boys.
But the groups were not the only active members of this event. Danny O'Day of WCON radio in Cornelia, Ga. provided the radio promotion for the concert and served as the MCEE.
The result, over 3,000 fans showed up and raised $20,000.00 for the hospital.
"We were so blessed to see the outcome of this concert/benefit. It makes all the hard work worth while" stated Stanley Pierce of Eastern Bound.
Talent coordinator Gerald Sweatman says they are looking forward to next years concert and have already confirmed the appearances of Melody Trio, Dixie Melody Boys, Naomi and the Segos, and of course Eastern Bound.
