Consisting of two sisters and a brother, Brenda, Elaine and Steve and hailing from Olathe, Kansas (I didn't know Southern Gospel existed in Kansas!), 2nd Generation is a mixed family group with a strong country feel to their music. They have a good mix of cover tunes and original material and have a big sound to boot.

The robust sound of the Gerald Crabb penned, "LET'S ALL GET TOGETHER" starts things off and running and moves right into the slower, smooth acoustical sounds of, "A BETTER WAY" penned by Aaron Crabb and Sue Smith. Things get kicked back into high gear with the tune, "EVERYDAY JESUS".

The group's first single from this recording is "HANGING ON A NAIL", which lyrically runs very similar to Phil Cross' hit song from a few years ago called "The Key." I love the sound of the group on this song and think it is songs like this, as well another song called "WHEN HE CHOSE ME", that this group sounds their best and I believe is where they will find their niche. The group amazingly sounds very similar to Wendy Bagwell & The Sunliters on these two tunes, which remains to this day, one of my all time favorite groups.

Written by Donna Beauvais of Hope's Call, "GOD CAN" offers an encouraging message that no matter the circumstance, God can take care of things, while the Dolly Parton penned classic, "DADDY WAS AN OLD TIME PREACHER MAN" offers a sentimental look at the lives of 2nd Generation as the song reflects the life of their own dad.

Other songs included on this recording include "JUST SAY JESUS" which was written by group member Steve Green and "TROUBLE ME NO MORE", penned by Marty Funderburk and Daryl Williams.

Beginning much like it started, the recording closes on a highly energetic note with the title song, "WHO WANTS TO PRAISE THE LORD", which has also recently been recorded by First Love.

If your taste leans more to that of the Crabb Family, Hinsons, and the like, you'll probably really enjoy 2nd Generation. Their sound is a distinct country flare from the 1970s. While at times I think that the vocals could hold back just a tad, the group has a good sound and I really enjoyed this recording. The song selection is good, the music tracks are very good and for the most part, the vocals are quite good as well. I didn't hear a lot of stacks, so what you hear appears to be the real deal; lots of power in those vocal chords! I really like this group a lot, and look forward to hearing more from them in the very near future.

Personal Favs: A BETTER WAY; HANGING ON A NAIL; DADDY WAS AN OLD TIME PREACHER MAN; WHEN HE CHOSE ME

Excellent CD. I listen to it at work most of the day. Not often that I keep one CD playing all day long. Great group!!

James,
Thanks for the review. We laughed when we read the line that says "at times I thought the vocals could hold back a tad". We get our vocal cords from our mother. She can "sang". We have been taught to sing from your toes & let the Holy Spirit have his way.... We just love to have church!! I am sure a vocal coach would have a good time with us from the Ozarks.LOL! We really appreciate you giving us your time and opinion.
May God bless you for blessing others.

Just got back from a five day cruise and had the honor of singing on the program with 2nd Generation. They were a highlight of the cruise. They have a power sound and present the message very well. I look forward to hearing them again.
