BOONE, NC — Jerry Kirksey, the associate publisher and C.O.O. of Singing News Magazine, recently signed a literary contract with Woodland Gospel Publishing, a book publisher in Chapmanville, WV, to eventually document The Singing News Magazine’s history.

The magazine, which is considered the “Printed Voice of Southern Gospel Music,” was originally founded by J.G. Whitfield in 1969.

"This is a great honor for our organization," stated Woodland Gospel co-founder Keith Davis. "We have a great deal of respect for the prestigious magazine and its fine staff. We believe the Singing News has a fascinating history that readers will surely enjoy and treasure."

The handsome hardbound volume is expected to be available in 2005 and will be an intimate biographical and pictorial account of the magazine, its staff and its impact on the Southern Gospel industry. For more information about this project, call Woodland Gospel at (304) 752-7512 / FAX 304-752-9002; or write, Woodland Gospel Publishing, 118 Woodland Drive, Suite 1101-1, Chapmanville, WV 25508 -- http://www.woodlandgospel.com

I am really looking forward to this! I have a lot of respect for the SN Magazine, and I read the Greene's book, produced by the same publisher. This book will be dynamite. I love teh behind-the-scenes info about groups and quartets. Can't wait!!!!

Good for you, Singing News! My family will be watching for your book that tells about the beginnings of your magazine. My wife and I enjoy the humor in the magazine and the really thought-provoking columns. Keep up the good work. We will be buying your book!

I think that the Singing News has a definite impact in the industry. I love that magazine, and I bet the book will really be an enjoyable read.

The magazine has a small-town charm to its content, and I know it has done a great deal to further the career of many artists. Our personal favorite is Danny Jones and Jerry Kirksey. They are both humorus writers. My wife, Thelma, and I will make it a point to buy a copy of the book when it is released!
