Bobby McCallister grew up in West Virginia and taught himself to play guitar and piano. As a teenager, he played bass for a local gospel group. He didn't know the Lord and didn't know what they were singing about. But, one day, as he sat alone playing the piano, he felt the Spirit of God and His convicting power. He couldn’t resist Him any longer. At the age of 16, He gave his life to the Lord. Now he knows what he's singing about! Bobby believes that "If people are entertained by our music that’s great, but if they don’t see Jesus in us we have missed our goal."

After high school, Bobby worked as a DJ at a Southern Gospel station in Charleston, WV for 2 years, and then moved to Thomasville, NC. In the spring of 1991, Bobby joined the group, The Bradleys. In the fall of 1991, he joined the family when he married The Bradley's daughter, Jennifer.

Not only does Bobby sing and play with the group but he also produces professional performance tracks for people who need them. Bobby is an accomplished musician that produces some of the best professional sound tracks in the market today. He also owns Salem Sound Studio.

For up and coming groups or artists who write their own songs, Bobby can produce a professional track to use for performance or for demo. There comes a point when every group needs to advance to the level that they are singing new and original material or re-arranged previously recorded music. Where does and artist or group go to get these type of tracks?

In trying to answer that question for myself, my Minister of Music, Daryl Williams, told me that he used a gentleman from Winston Salem, North Carolina, named Bobby McCallister. With a Daryl Williams recommendation, I decided I would give Bobby a try. There is nothing in the world like hearing an original song from your group on a track. It sort of gives you that goose bump feeling. Or hearing the song you wrote laid out in a professional demo. Daryl was wrong, Bobby doesn’t just do good tracks, he does great tracks. Of all the tracks I have had Bobby produce, I have never been disappointed, and his creativity is phenomenal.

Bobby McCallister got started making tracks about five years ago when the Bradleys were singing in Ohio and a man there wanted to sell them some recording equipment. As it worked out, they bought that equipment and started recording themselves, but it soon proved to be much more valuable than just recording the Bradleys. Bobby was adding to the Bradleys sound by using tracks along with their live music. Soon Bobby was making tracks for such people and groups as the Daryl Williams Trio, the Ken Apple Trio, Janice Crow, Larry DeLawter, the River of Life Assembly of God Church, where Johnny Minick is Pastor, as well as the publishing company, Centergy.

Bobby doesn’t do his tracks like many of them are done today. Many tracks today are produced totally on keyboards with synthesized instruments. But Bobby plays such instruments as drums, Bass guitar, Acoustic guitar, Electric guitar, Mandolin, Banjo, and the keyboards, so he is able to put many live instruments on his tracks. This gives them an entirely different feel than those produced with just keyboards. He amazingly plays all of these instruments by ear.

Bobby produces between 100 and 200 tracks per year. If you need background vocals, he and his wife Jennifer are very qualified to take care of that part too.

Another area of professional performance tracks that seems to be opening up for Bobby is that of Songwriter Demos. Everyone knows that the more professional your demo is the better chance of having it picked up by someone to record. With the quality of the tracks and vocals, this has proven to be very beneficial for songwriters who don’t happen to have a studio in their office or don’t happen to play any instruments well enough to put on a demo track.

Bobby would be glad to send demos to any serious artists, or you can listen to his demos at his website. His current turn around time is about 1 to 3 weeks. The price varies from basic tracks to more complicated tracks with strings, horns and voices, but they are all very reasonable.

You can find out more about Bobby McCallister and his tracks at his website http://www.thebradleys.net , or you can e-mail him at (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address), or call him at 336-760-3827.

I urge anyone interested in professional performance tracks to give Bobby McCallister a call.

Reader Comments

We were very glad to see a write up on Bobby McCallister.

We have used Salem Studio's on all three of our projects, and Bobby is working on our fourth project as we write. He has a very gifted ear to perfect whatever it is that he's working on. The soundtracks are like no other we've ever heard. Being singers, we take note of ALL other groups tracks, and none compare to Bobby's. He puts all of himself in his work. He is a humble man with a wonderful God given gift...and uses it to glorify our Lord.

We have also had Bobby and Jennifer do backup on our tracks and they complemet our singing completely. Nothing is finished until it's done right.

Thanks to both of you!
