Washington, DC—January 24, 2005--Country music legends The Oak Ridge Boys performed during the Presidential Inauguration Celebration on the night of January 20th, in Washington, DC, for around 1,000 of the top donors of the Republican National Convention. The group performed some of their biggest hits including "American Made" and "Elvira" as well as a rendition of "Amazing Grace." They also sang songs from their recent Journey release, including "Train, Train" and their new country radio single "Someplace Green." The group was introduced by Former President George H. W. Bush.

"The Oak Ridge Boys proudly took part in the festivities (inaugural) by presenting a command performance for the Republican National Party's Regents and Rangers Club in the main ballroom of the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Washington, D.C.," stated tenor Joe Bonsall. "In an interesting sidenote, Former President George H. W. Bush left the inaugural parade early to join us and hang out…he had whispered in his son's ear that he was ‘...gonna go see the Oaks.’ He then went to the Ritz and surprised the crowd by coming on stage and introducing his friends...The Oak Ridge Boys... It was a great night!"

The Oak Ridge Boys are no strangers to political events. They have participated in five political campaigns, beginning in 1988 when their friendship with George Herbert Walker Bush resulted in an invitation to sing at the GOP Convention in New Orleans. They have performed in concert for six U.S. Presidents — Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton, as well as George Bush, Sr. and George W. Bush. The Oaks were once again part of President Bush’s 2004 campaign, performing at rallies in Milwaukee, Wis., and Manchester, NH.

The group will be performing in Nashville on Wednesday, January 26th, at the Curb Event Center at Belmont University for "An Evening for Restoration: Music City Comes Together for Tsunami Relief," which begins at 7:00 p.m.

The Oaks’ current Spring Hill Music Group release The Journey is distributed through Word Entertainment/WEA. The first single "Bad Case of Missing You" landed in Music Row’s Top 40 chart. The new single "Someplace Green" is getting out-of-the-box adds now at country stations nationwide. They recently released An American Journey (New Leaf Press), a book, written by Bonsall, that chronicles the group’s 30-year history in the mainstream of American music.

The Oak Ridge Boys are booked by the William Morris Agency and are managed by Jim Halsey, of The Jim Halsey Company. Further information regarding the Oak Ridge Boys can be found at http://www.oakridgeboys.com or http://www.springhillmusic.com

It's exciting seeing these men being involved in such a strong and powerful way in the life of our nation. They are truly "in the world" but not "of the world." They are constant reminders that you can have an impact for the Kingdom of God, regardless of the profession that you're in or regardless of the music that you enjoy.

May these men continue to keep up the good work for many years to come.

The Oaks sparked an interest in Gospel Music for me in the 60's.

Thanks!
