The members of The Palmetto State Quartet are recent recipients of the highest honor awarded by the Commonwealth of Kentucky. On April 9, 2005 Kerry Beatty, Rick Fair, Andrew Ishee, Aaron “Tex” McCune, and John Rulapaugh were all commissioned Kentucky Colonels. The commissions were enacted by Senator Vernie McGaha of Russell Springs, Kentucky on behalf of Governor Ernie Fletcher. The presentations were made during a Palmetto State Quartet concert in Columbia, Kentucky.

Commissions as Kentucky Colonels are presented for contributions to the community, state, or nation, and for special achievements of all kinds. A list of Kentucky Colonels is a Who’s Who of outstanding men and women around the world. Some famous Kentucky Colonels are President Lyndon Johnson, Prime Minister Winston Churchill, and Astronaut John Glenn.
