The Hoskins Family
![]() Since being discovered a few years back, the Hoskin's Family have continued a climb to the top of the charts. The Ohio based family has scored number one songs like "Safe Thus Far," and "When the Savior Wipes the Tears." They are no stranger to the scene, with multiple Dove nominations and industry acceptance. They are set out to tell the world about Christ, in a way only the Hoskin's Family can do. With the album "Its Over ...Let Eternity Begin" ready to land, we spoke to the Hoskin's Family. What do you think was the turning point in the Hoskin's Families career? Angie-The turning point in the Hoskin's Family's career would defiantly be our first top 5 song, " Joyful Morning.", In a very short time the song was being played all over the country and it was being asked for everywhere. Our dates began picking up, calls were coming into the office and then the product began to sell. We started performing with the major artists in our industry. At that point our future was really blessed with many opportunities. I hear SouthernGospelNews is the first to break some important news. Can you share your recent signing with us? We do have breaking news SouthernGospelNews is the first to hear it. We have recently went back with the Beckie Simmons Agency. We will be doing a press release shortly. Beckie has always been a friend of the Hoskins Family and we have a lot of confidence in her. We are looking forward to a great year and a lasting relationship. When you performed on the GMA Dove Awards, what was it like standing on that stage?Angie-Standing on stage at the Dove Awards was a dream come true. We have all been fans and watched it on TV as long as I can remember. I can honestly say that was a moment I will never remember. !!! Wait a minute. Dont you mean. That you will never forget? (Laughing)I was just too nervous to remember if everything went O.K. or not on the Dove Awards. I remember at one point, I looked down to my left and there set Sandi Patty. That didn't help matters for my nervous system. Then I looked down to my right and there sat Amy Grant and Vince Gill,(knees knocking at that point) What a night!! A dream I thought would never happen. It was that year our song “When the Savior Wipes the Tears From Our Eyes" was nominated for Southern Gospel Song of the Year, along with a few other nominations. Didn't that song reach # 1 in USGN and 3 in Singing News? Angie - Yes, it did. And we are still so blessed by the people that song has helped. Let me ask Jim this next question. What was the most embarrassing moment on the road? The most embarrassing moment I can talk about is this particular night I was driving, it was about 4:oo in the morning. There was a cop off the side of the road, giving someone a ticket. As I drove by him I blew him back against his car. No one had ever told me to get in the other lane when a cop was off the road. I just kept driving down the highway looking back to see him picking up his papers and his hat. In all honesty, I picked up the speed a little bit, in hopes I would be long gone by the time he was through. So, I just kept listening to Gaither Vocal band hoping things would be O.K. Next thing I knew I was the one being pulled over. The thought that kept coming to me was, I am in soooo much trouble, what will I tell Rick, and Lord knows Angie and Reva will never let me live this down. And, what will my dad say when he has to bail me out of jail for assaulting a police officer? He come to the window, he looked a little pale then again, so did I.(laughing) He was kind and asked who are you carrying in the tour bus…I smiled and told him a gospel group, he grinned and said I love gospel music! Which group is it? I said The Hoskin's Family, the police officer smiled and said ,"I just saw them on GMT they're one of my favorites, I thought you looked familiar. " Thank God for gospel music and GMT, I left there with a warning and not a ticket, needless to say I am very careful when I see anyone off the side of the road. Angie, What was it like CO-producing your current project along side Mike Bowling? We are so excited about this new record. This record is what the Hoskin's Family is all about. The message, our faith, and our commitment to ministry. I feel this is our strongest record to date. I felt I wanted to produce our next project. So, I called my good friend Mike Bowling, to see if he would help me. And he said yes. Since, I am his favorite singer and all.(laughing) Just kidding. Mike has been a good friend to the Hoskins Family, and he is incredibly talented. We always have a great time when were together. We never stop laughing, we had the best time in the studio. I love the combination and I wouldn't change a thing! Reva, what seems to be the most powerful song you perform nightly to the fans? The most powerful song we sing would be our first #1 song which was ,“Safe Thus Far.” There isn't a night that goes by that the song isn't requested, so needless to say we sing it every night. I never get tired of singing it (says Reva) that was the song Angie learned during her 2 nd pregnancy. And some may not know, she had a rough time. The doctors took her off the road for a while. And, it was the song that gave her the encouragement she needed to get her through. We have heard story after story of how that particular song has changed peoples's lives. One that sticks out in my mind was a woman stopped by the table one night , and she had just give her heart to the Lord. This lady was changing channels on her radio and thinking of suicide, because her husband had just left her. She heard the song "Safe Thus Far" and gave her heart to the Lord. And, at that point realized, if she had him on her side that was all that mattered. The song was written by Kyla Roland. What an anointed woman of God! Angie - Another song that has a huge response from crowds is our new single entitled “It's Over." We have only been singing it now for about 4 weeks. This song actually leaves you speechless. As I remember seeing one pastor on his knees crying out to God. The song talks about eternity and how one day, God will tell Gabriel to blow his trumpet to bring his children home. This song is for today. I believe the coming of the Lord is so close we need to do what we are gonna do for Christ right now. Saints take your places let eternity begin.(Wow- as Angie gets goose bumps) It takes a lot to keep a full time ministry on the road. Tell us about your team?We are blessed to have such a great team backing and encouraging our ministry. God has sent us the cream of the crop. Starting with some of the best friends we have ever had in our management team. The Rick Hendrix Company, Rick and Shane are always there to encourage us when times seem a little rough. They handle our schedules, deals and along side Rhonda Thompson of Daywind Music they handle radio promotions. This team has been promoting our radio hits for 3 years. Lots of Southern Gospel would have never heard songs like- S afe Thus Far, Written In Heaven, When The Savior Wipes The Tears, Places to Go, In the Palm of His Hands and all of our recent radio hits. We are with one of the most prestigious booking agency's in our industry, The Beckie Simmons Agency we are blessed to have her on our side and supporting us. Newday and Word distribute our product everywhere and they are responsible for getting our music out to the consumers. Last, but certainly not least our awesome record company! Not just a record company, but our family. Norman Holland who is always full of laughs and fun, to Dottie Leonard Miller who always has that same sweet smile for everyone to Ed Leonard who is always there to make you feel like part of the family. Wow! What a life God has given us and we thank him for it religiously. Angie - Can I plug some other key players? I can't do an interview without mentioning our road crew. We have a road manager (Luke White) and a babysitter (Olivia White) they are brother and sister and they travel with us every weekend. We laugh more than we do anything else. We appreciate all their hard work. My husband Michael is defiantly behind the scenes, he is my #1 fan and makes me strong. He has been asked before how he lets his family go off for days at a time and how he manages at home without his wife and kids. His reply is always the same,"Who am I to stand in the way of what God has called my wife to do." What's a day in the life of the Hoskin's Family like? A NORMAL day in the life of the Hoskin's Family? Well, I really didn't know there was such a thing. (Laughing) After going to bed late usually around 2:00 a.m., we get up and get started around 10:00 , there is 8 of us to get cleaned up and only one shower so we all patiently wait. My daughter Abby and I are first so we can get started on her schooling cause I home school her. Then after everyone is cleaned up we usually fight over what restaurant to go to, then we have to be at the church or auditorium at 3:00 or 4:00 in order to set up, we have a multimedia presentation we do with our songs so that takes quite a bit of set up. We are usually out and on the road by 11 PM. "I drive all night to get us to the next venue," said Angie. "Wait a minute,"said Reva."If Angie drove us anywhere , it would be in a ditch. We would be No Show Hoskin's (as they all laughed) OK, said Angie, what I mean is Dad and Jim drive us to the next stop and it all starts over again. What do you wanna have people remember most when they hear the name Hoskin's Family? Reva answered, "Deon, we never thought or deserved any of this. We were just a church family, that loved the Lord. We enjoy and love every minute of the blessings he bestows on us. But, we have a mission. Not a political one, not a famous one. But, a real one. And that is to earnestly, honestly and faithfully lead people to Christ. I wouldn't wanna leave one soul behind. If my family can give hope to just one heart a night. We will pack up and go. No matter the money, miles or trials. We are fans of Christ. Children of Christ. And we just wanna let others know, that no matter the walls life puts in your way. He is by yourside.I would like people to remember most, not our hits, our awards, our records, but remember us in their prayers." After watching this family perform at this years SGN Award show, it left me wondering. What are they going to do next? Which audience is going to reach out and embrace such a dynamic family? Sitting down and talking to the Hoskin's Family has answered those questions. They are going to continue to work hard, get the message to as many souls as they can, cross boundaries to reach others, and never compromise their sound, life, spirit or walk to obtain anything the Lord hasn't honored. I do not believe there is another group in the industry that can hold a candle to the Hoskins Family. They are so annointed and truely called by God. They never let ego get in the way of what they are called to do and that is spread the gospel. Praise God for groups like the Hoskins Family.

I am a huge fan of The Hoskin's Family. The first time I ever heard them was when they first released "I Wouldn't Trade One Minute Of It" and I can tell you, I wouldn't trade one minute of listening to this fine group for anything. They possess rich harmonies and have an anointing that is unsurpassed. Keep up the great work!
