Brian Free and Assurance - Christmas With
![]() Produced by Ricky Free Once in a great while a Southern Gospel groups puts out an exceptional Christmas CD. I say that because sometimes the harmonies of Christmas songs are out of the normal element for Southern Gospel Music. With that said, Brian Free and assurance have accomplished the feat if recording an exceptional Christmas CD. What really makes this outstanding is the fact that where they used instrumentation they used pre-recorded tracks from Daywind and Word, including some cover songs by artists outside the SG genre. Don't let this scare you though, this CD is very SGM sounding, yet catches the secular quality that we are so used to when we purchase Christmas music. These guys have taken these tracks and put their own personality to them. "The Season Of Love" is one of those cover songs brought over from another genre and these guys make it theirs. It features Derrick Selph. If you radio guys are looking for some great Christmas music, you might consider this song. Bill Shivers sings a ballad as great as anyone, and he really delivers on the beautiful song modern Christmas song "A Strange Way To Save The World". This would do well on radio at this time of the year also. The classic "Do You Hear What I Hear" features Keith Plott and he does and excellent job of going from the upper range on his solos to some really nice lower notes on the harmony. "Christmas Shoes" is one of those songs that grabs your heart and doesn't let go until you shed a tear. Brian Free does a fantastic job interpreting the message of this touching song. Make sure you have plenty of tissues when you listen to this cut. This song really catches the "Spirit" of Christmas. No Christmas CD would be complete without the most recorded Christmas song on it and they give "Silent Night" a personal touch that you are sure to enjoy. Other great songs include "Hark The Herald Angles Sing", "White Christmas", and "Carol Of The Bells". My only complaint is the fact that this wonderful CD only has nine songs on it. You won't be disappointed by purchasing this CD. Reader Comments
