Cheri Taylor– Mercy Said No
![]() Producer: Les Butler It is with this recording that I have become aware of the talents of Cheri Taylor. Cheri has a certain warmth about her voice that I really like. She has a rich alto voice, but doesn't have a problem reaching up for the high notes as well. She very successfully blends differing styles in her music ranging from Country, to Soul, Inspirational to Blues and all the way to classic Southern Gospel. She can do it all, and she does it all quite well, I might add. The high energy of the country/blues sounding “SWEETWATER” starts things off before covering CCM artist, Greg Long's hit song, “MERCY SAID NO” , and Cheri does a really good job with her version of the song. The slow-medium tempo of “KING OF THE MO UNTAIN” proclaims that no matter where I go, in the valley, mountain or desert, the Lord is always by my side. Next, Cheri sings a very spirited rendition of the church favorite, “JOY UNSPEAKABLE” before turning in exceptional performances on a couple of oft-recorded Greg Day penned tunes “IT'S ENOUGH” and “WALKIN' IN THE FAVOR OF GOD”. The tender song, “QUIETLY” has become my favorite from this recording. You'll probably never hear this song on the radio, but besides the wonderful lyrics, the simplicity of this song lures you in and ushers you into place of quiet worship and praise. The soulful sounds of “I'M STILL SAVED” and “THERE'S LIFE CHANGIN' POWER IN PRAYER” really shows off the soulful side of Cheri and are both nicely done. Cheri turns in a masterful performance on the worshipful, “HE WHO WAS AND IS TO COME”. Though recently popularized by another soloist Harlan Burton, Cheri gives him a run for his money on her version of the song. A song you don't hear much anymore is the Mylon LeFevre classic, “WITHOUT HIM” and Cheri does a very good job on this song as well as a unique acoustical version of the Gordon Jenson classic, “REDEMPTION DRAWETH NIGH” which closes things out. One of the reasons I love doing reviews is I get to come in contact with a lot of talent and many of them unknown to a certain extent. It is a joy to listen to great, new music and Cheri is definitely a joyous find and she has a very good recording that is definitely a notch above the average. Personal Favs: KING OF THE MO UNTAIN; JOY UNSPEAKABLE; QUIETLY; HE WHO WAS AND IS TO COME; REDEMPTION DRAWETH NIGH Reader Comments

Sister Cheri's message in her new cd Mercy Said No, makes the body of Christ aware of Gods precious Spirit. I pray every Christian Listens to this cd. Evil will prevail only when good men and women of God do nothing. So I pray Cheri is invited to every Ministry that can hear the voice of God.
