I have been a fan of Chuck Compton for about the last 5 or 6 years. Chuck's style is a simple country sound that appeals to many people. Those that were fans of his former group, the Comptons, may wonder if the sound and emotion of their former self is still there. You can put those fears aside because although Chuck is now a soloist, the music and feel of the music is still very much the same.

With its sluggish beginning, the pace quickly picks up to a medium tempo on the opening song, “NEARING THAT SHORE” before things slow down on a great song reminding us of not just what Heaven holds for the saints, but it also reminds us of “THE THINGS THAT WON'T GET IN”. The tempo quickly picks up for the highly enjoyable, “GOD WILL MAKE A WAY” before slowing down a bit for the acoustical flavored title song, “RICH MAN”.

The Happy Goodman Family recorded “SHOW ME THE WAY TO CALVARY” back in 1972, as did the Hinsons, and Chuck's performance definitely deserves an honorable mention as he did a very good job on this great old song.

Keeping things in slow mode, we find the song “SAVING GRACE” which is a touching ballad about an elderly couple dealing with Alzheimer's. Things move on to a great old song, “IT'S GOTTA BE LOVE” (aka-“You've Got to Be Tired Lord”) before the pace picks up for a fun little ditty entitled, “WALKING DOWN THE ROAD” that's been recorded several times in the past, but it's still a good song.

Those that have lost loved ones to death will find a lot of comfort in the song “WHEN OUR EYES MEET AGAIN” . Another great song of comfort is found in the old favorite, “PEACE IN THE VALLEY” , which features a simple arrangement with just Chuck and his guitar. The recording closes with another great song about Heaven, “HOMECOMING DAY”.

While I do miss the Comptons as a group, the sound is still there. The overall quality of the recording is very good. The cover graphics aren't what they could be and looks very elementary, but it doesn't deter me from enjoying the CD. The song selection is good as well and every song fits Chuck to a “T”. After suffering a major heart attack last year, it's great to have Chuck back and doing what he does best…singing and playing Southern Gospel Music.

Personal Favs: NEARING THE SHORE; THE THINGS THAT WON'T GET IN; GOD WILL MAKE A WAY; RICH MAN; IT'S GOTTA BE LOVE; HOMECOMING DAY

Anytime Chuck picks up his guitar, you know that a blessing will follow; I always make it a point to be in attendance any time the announcement is made that Chuck will be singing.
Keep up the good work, Chuck!
