imageLabel: Daywind
Producers: Gerald and Kathy Crabb
Song Titles: “Brothers Forever,” “Don’t You Wanna Go?,” “I Sure Miss You,” “Jesus In A Song,” “Not Even A Stone,” “Please Come Down To Me,” “Please Forgive Me,” “That’s No Mountain,” “The Lamb, The Lion, And The King,” “The Reason That I’m Standing,” “Through The Fire,” “Trail Of Tears,” “Thank God For The Preacher,” and “The Call”
It was difficult to put an accurate star rating on the new DVD by the Crabb Family. From a content and performance perspective, it’s excellent. The production quality is not the greatest though. I’ve seen clearer footage shot on MiniDV cameras by average videographers. Granted, there’s some interesting crane shots that sweep over the crowd, but if you expect the vivid colors and balanced saturation you see on a typical Gaither video, you might not care for this DVD. The packaging also leaves a bit to be desired. Track numbers for the songs are listed in alphabetical order on the case rather than the order in which the songs appear on the DVD . . . a major no-no. If you want to jump ahead to “Please Forgive Me,” you and your remote are just on your own. On the other hand, if you aren’t the type that notices or minds that sort of thing and you enjoy an energetic performance, you’ll most likely love this DVD. In other words, don’t let the 3 star rating fool you. In this case, it’s clearly a balancing act between what would probably be a 4 or even 4 1/2 star rating for content/performance, but only a 2 at most for the footage and packaging quality.
There’s not a great deal to say about the songs that hasn’t already been said in the past. This is a GREAT selection of songs. As the title indicates, these are previously charted hits that either the Crabb Family or Mike Bowling has recorded. This particular performance took place on October 26, 2002 in Winston-Salem, NC. One neat feature is that between the songs, the group members share background information about the songs and other personal experiences. By the way, this project features the “new” line-up . . . in other words, the current touring format of just the kids without Gerald and Kathy.

Rating: 3 Star Rating

I personally thought their Homecoming video was much better. This video is rather boring to me...but for Crabb fans, it'll be a must have. I think you gave a fair rating David. I may have opted for a 4 star, but I think your 3 star was fair.

I only have this on VHS, so I didn't notice any of the video problems that you are talking about. I would have given this one 4 stars

I have it on VHS as well, and I would have given it at least 4 stars. The video is great. Hope does a great job singing Trail of Tears:)

The only bad thing is that it isn't much different from the Homecoming. The thing with the DVD is it doesn't have tracks like the Homecoming.

I thought the crowd was much more "into it" on the Homecoming video. Of course, being done at their annual homecoming, of course the crowd will be into it. But I know the Crabbs have a huge following in the Winston Salem area, and was kind surprised at the calmness of the crowd during the video.

Well I don't have it yet but I'll be getting it soon smile I just wanted to mention something that I thought was really cool.....the Crabbs were #17 (The Gaithers were #4) on CCM magazine's top 25 list of the top artists shaping Christian music today!

I was beginning to think I may have been a little harsh on this DVD by giving it a 3 star rating. Then someone pointed out something I hadn't noticed. It seems a few of the songs were filmed with no audience. Weighing that in with the other issues I mentioned, I still believe the 3 was fair . . . not awful . . . not excellent . . . it's mid-quality. But as I alluded previously, die hard fans of any group are going to love anything as long as it's pretty decent. Don't let my review stop you from buying it if you're a big fan!

I just got back form the annual Homecoming 2003 and while I was there I purchased that DVD. I thought the DVD was outstanding! I cried, I laughed, I just had a good time watching the whole thing. I LOVE THE CRABB FAMILY SO MUCH, and I think that they do an awesome job no matter what, cause they all sing from their heart and just let God use them in an awesome way. That to me is what serving the Lord is all about, it's fulfilling the call that God has on your life and then letting God work with it. The Bible says, that He is the Potter and we are the clay, and that's what the Crabb Family is, they are a work of God in progress, and I'm so thankful to call them my friends.

Some of the songs were recorded with no audience. I was at the concert and song such as Brothers Forever and Trail of Tears that Hope sang, they did not sing with the audience.
