I first heard of the Dalton Gang back in the mid 1980’s. They were putting out some great Country Gospel back then and it’s good to hear something new from this family trio. Their latest project, Thank God, continues the great tradition.
The album starts out with a pretty ballad, featuring Cheryl, “Bring the Broken Pieces”, written by Leslie Erin Martin. They follow this song up with another ballad featuring Cheryl, “Come to the Cross”.
Tom takes the lead on a mid tempo country style song, “Don’t Let Go”, another song from Leslie. Tom has a nice, easy listening, country style and sings this one well. Finally, they pick the tempo up with the hand clapper from Jim Watters, “Wipe Away All My Tears”. Cheryl has a very distinctive voice and does a good job on this song.
“Lord Send Me” is a nice waltz that once again features Cheryl. This style of song is very popular among Country Gospel lovers. Tom once again takes the lead on “Heaven Is Only One Breath Away”. This is a good medium tempo country song.
“Ginny’s New Home”, written by Bill Burns and Terry Nunley, is a song about a young girl in an orphanage, waiting to be adopted. This is a sad song with a positive ending. Cheryl is once again featured on “In God’s Waiting Room”.
“Arms of Love” is a pretty ballad featuring Cheryl. This is one of the better songs on the project. They close the c.d. with “Every Time the Cross Crosses My Mind”. This song is done as a duet with Tom on lead and Cheryl on harmony.
The Dalton Gang has some nice family harmonies. This album could definitely use a fast song or two more. After a few songs, things started to sound alike. Folks who have followed the group through the years should enjoy the project.
