Sing Along from Darren and Margy Hughes features 12 brand new songs written by this couple from Dunn, NC. Their style blends a more progressive Southern style with a tad of Bluegrass.
They start the project off slow with a very nice ballad featuring Margy, “I Am Thankful”. “It’s About God” picks up the pace with a more contemporary style and features Darren on the vocals. The title song, “Sing Along” is a foot stomper and is a more traditional country Gospel song.
“You Never Cease to Amaze Me” is a country ballad. “That’s Who I Am” is Karen Peck and New River style song and is the best song on the project to this point. They sound really well singing together.
“God is in Control” is a pretty mid tempo song and is followed by a song called “Ready”. They start this song with an old recording and then the new song kicks in. This song is a Progressive Country style song. “Get Your House in Order” is a traditional Bluegrass song.
Darren does a nice job singing “I See God”. This song is a country ballad and might be a good radio song for them. Margy takes the lead on “Spread Your Wings”, an acoustical ballad. “There is Grace” is another ballad and is followed by an orchestrated ballad, “There is Grace”.
They have chosen to close the album out in a very unique way. They share the Gospel message and Salvation plan, reading some of their favorite scriptures.
Overall, I enjoyed the original material. The tracks were well produced but I found the vocals to be very inconsistent. There was some very good singing on the project and then the next song would be pitchy. They sound the best when they are doing ensemble work with the back up vocals up in the mix. There is some obvious ability here and I think that they can build on this project.
