I have discovered, over the course of the last couple of years, something that I think a lot of people will realize with this recording (if they haven't yet already).Dave McVay is one of the most versatile and unique vocalists in Southern Gospel Music; he's a rare gem. Singing in the shadow of an outstanding lead singer in Three Bridges, Dave wasn't the standout singer that he could have been, but this new solo release puts him out there, front and center.

Most of the songs contained in this recording are vocal remakes of songs Dave recorded previously with Three Bridges. Dave also does much of the background vocal work with these previously recorded tracks, "I DIDN'T THINK IT COULD BE", "HE TOOK THE CROSS" (his current single), "LET FAITH ANSWER THE DOOR", "I CAN'T BELIEVE MY EYES", "BLESS YOUR HOLY NAME AGAIN", "WAITIN' ON JESUS" and "BREAKIN' CHAINS" and it seems that many of these tunes take on a new life with some new vocal arrangements.

There are a couple of songs not associated with Three Bridges that Dave tackles such as "BEYOND THE GRAVE" (originally recorded by the Anchormen several years ago), "HE LIFTED ME" (originally recorded by the Kingdom Heirs, and features Dave doing all the parts except the bass vocals, which are ably provided by Eric Bennett) and the classic song, "THERE IS A RIVER", which closes out the recording.

The description for a 3 ½ star rating most suitably describes this effort, "a good, solid project". I wouldn't say there were any surprises that blew me away, simply because these tracks and arrangements are ones that I've heard before, but it does whet the appetite for a recording full of new songs from Dave; which I hope isn't too far down the line.
