David Livingston - God Alone
Label: Lo Records
Louisville, Kentucky’s own, David Livingston has released a project filled with some good music blending Bluegrass and Christian Country. God Alone also features 5 songs written by David.
“Ain’t Goin’ Up ‘Til the Son Comes Down”, kicks off the project with a good up tempo Bluegrass sound. “Justified, Sanctified, and Glorified” is a more mid tempo song and is a mix of Country Gospel and Bluegrass.
The title song, “God Alone” is a more traditional Country song, reminding me a little of Mel Tillis. This song seemed to be a shade too low for him. In his lower register there were some pitchy places. “Not Another Day” stylistically is more of an ‘80s Country sound. “My Last Day”, written by Don Smith, is another mid tempo Country Gospel song.
Michael Lee has provided the next two songs on the project, “Lord, Please Help Me” and “Just a Taste”, which is probably the best song on the project. It has some nice chord progressions. David ends the project with a Positive Country song, “Sitting on the Porch with Sue”. This is a fun song that once again reminds me of the Mel Tillis song, “Saw Mill”.
There are some good music tracks on this project but the song quality could have been better lyrically. There were several places within the body of the project that were pitchy. I think that David can build on this project.
