Del McCoury Band - The Promised Land

If Bluegrass Gospel is your pick, then you will love this CD. Right out of the chute you hear plenty of strings. You can’t miss the Banjo, the Mandolin, the Fiddle, the Upright Bass, and of course the Rhythm Guitar. One needs only listen to a little Bluegrass to know that he instruments are half of you are expecting to hear. The other half is the vocals. You certainly won’t be disappointed in the instruments on this CD. There are hot licks to go around for everyone. These guys have really crafted the art of Bluegrass picking.
Vocals on Bluegrass recordings are expected to be a little nasal with a very high tenor. You will get that and more with this recording. The other standard with Bluegrass singing is close harmony, and you get plenty of that on this recording also.
Song selection is very good ranging from old classics like "I’m Bound For The Land Of Canaan", "It’s Surprising What The Lord Can Do", and "It’s An Unfriendly World". Then you have a great story song in "Five Flat Rocks". With fourteen songs, you are sure to find a couple of favorites.
My personal favorite is "The Lord Is Writing Down Names".
