Dottie Rambo - “We Shall Behold Him: A Tribute to Dottie Rambo”
Several people from all genres of music gathered together to honor “Songwriter of the Century”, Dottie Rambo. Throughout the video, Dottie shares some of her stories of how she wrote the songs and along with interview segments with the guests as they share their love for Dottie’s songs and special memories they have with Dottie. Country legend Barbara Mandrell is a more than adequate host and does a superb job keeping things going. After a brief introduction from Barbara on Dottie and her music, Dottie comes out to a standing ovation as she begins to sing “THE HOLY HILLS OF HEAVEN”. And so it begins, this journey into the music of Dottie Rambo and we are delighted to an evening packed with music, laughter, tears and praise as one by one people sing and honor Dottie for the colossal contributions she has not only made in the gospel music field, but in the music field as a whole. Without getting into every detail of the video, I will give a few highlights:
Other songs include “TOO MUCH TO GAIN TO LOSE”, “SHELTERED IN THE ARMS OF GOD”, “IF THAT ISN’T LOVE”, “HOLY SPIRIT THOU ART WELCOME”, “BRING ALL YOUR NEEDS TO THE ALTAR”, “I’VE NEVER BEEN THIS HOMESICK BEFORE”, “ONE MORE VALLEY”, “TEARS WILL NEVER STAIN THE STREETS OF THAT CITY”, “HE AIN’T NEVER DONE ME NOTHIN’ BUT GOOD” and “MAMA’S TEACHING ANGELS HOW TO SING.” Other performers include Larry Gatlin, Barbara Fairchild, the Crabb Family, Jessy Dixon, the Isaacs and Stella Parton. The quality of this video is first rate and the crowd seems to be into it the whole evening. My one gripe is the editing…for example, Larry Gatlin appears early in the video, and in talking, gives reference to the Isaacs thrilling performance, which hasn’t happened until much later in the video. But all in all, this is an excellent production and one Rambo fans will treasure for years to come. Reader Comments
 Being a Rambo fan from the time I was 13, I am thrilled with this project. This lady is a gem. Her songs have brought joy, peace, and comfort to my soul so many times. I have been blessed to see the original Rambos in concert many times, and always left feeling lighter. Dottie is a wonderful Christian lady, who puts her heart and soul in everything she does. I recently had the priviledge to see her again at the Quartet conventioon this year, what a blessing she is. I am looking forward to more from her. I also agree with the review, the segment with the three Rambo women was awesome. I Thank God For You Dottie,

Great review. The editing you are talking about actually had nothing to do with what Larry said. Larry actually said he heard a song he didn't realize she had written Mama's Teaching Angels How To Sing. He actually heard that song in rehersal. The guests on the video are in the same order they appeared at the filming. But they could have edited Larry's comment. GREAT REVIEW!

I thought somebody had said that the Crabb Family also performed "New Shoes" at the tribute?

No...the Crabbs did "Tears Will Never Stain" on the video. There was no performance of the song "New Shoes" on the video.

yeah but I mean somebody said they did it at the actual tribute concert. Is the video just a few songs from the tribute? Or was this the actual whole concert? I'm confused

The video had to be edited due to the length of the evening. It is about 2 hours long. They filmed about 4-5 hours that night. So the Crabbs version of New Shoes was cut. Crystal Gayle's Come Spring, Larry Gatlin's This Is My Valley, Jordanaires' On The Sunny Banks, Stella Parton's Looks Like Everybody's Got A Kingdom, Speer Family's Build My Mansion was cut also. I am not sure if any other songs were cut off the top of my head. It is a great video.

James, Dottie actually wants to re-record In The Valley. I can tell you that she did recut it with Keith Perry on his new cd which comes out in 2004. Reba sang harmony on the cut. Also, the song is going to be on a Rambos compilation that New Haven records is releasing in the next few weeks.
