After about 5 years in the making, this tribute to Dottie Rambo has finally been released. We are delighted to hear many of our favorite Homecoming artists singing several classic Rambo tunes. Some of the featured artists include Bob Cain, Vestal Goodman, Jake Hess, Kim Hopper, Candy Hemphill-Christmas, James Blackwood, the Crabb Family, Terry Blackwood, Jeannie Johnson, Mary Tom Speer, Jesse Dixon, Sandy Patti and others.

Highlights for me include the Crabb Family, along with Dottie singing a stirring rendition of “TEARS WILL NEVER STAIN THE STREETS OF THAT CITY”. Another highlight is Jeannie Johnson's very emotional rendition of “IF THAT ISN'T LOVE”. It is hard not to be moved after her performance of that song. Of course, hearing Vestal belt out “THE HOLY HILLS OF HEAVEN” was exhilarating, as was the grand finale of Sandy Patti churning out once more her Dove Award winning song, “WE SHALL BEHOLD HIM”.

On the DVD, there were 2 extra songs that alone, are worth the price of the video. The first song is the Rambos from the Gospel Singing Jubilee in the early 1970s singing, “BUILD MY MANSION NEXT DOOR TO JESUS” and the second song is a solo performance from Dottie from the mid 1980s singing “HE LOOKED BEYOND MY FAULT”.

Other songs include, “WHEN I LIFT UP MY HEAD”, “ONE MORE VALLEY”, “REMIND ME, DEAR LORD”, “ON THE SUNNY BANKS”, “SHELTERED IN THE ARMS OF GOD”, “I'VE NEVER BEEN THIS HOMESICK BEFORE”, “MAMA'S TEACHING ANGELS HOW TO SING”, “I GO TO THE ROCK”, “TOO MUCH TO GAIN TO LOSE” and “HOLY SPIRIT, THOU ART WELCOME”.

My one major gripe with this DVD is that much of it was recorded in 1999. My understanding is that this project was intended to be released 4-5 years ago. Why the wait? We do find many of those involved have since deceased…Howard and Vestal Goodman, Glen Payne, Rex Nelon, Jake Hess, Bob Cain, James Blackwood, Jack Toney, and so on. In many ways, it makes this tribute appear rather dated. But, it's still a great release and makes for excellent viewing. The commentary between Bill and Dottie makes it very interesting to watch and some of the comments by some of the other Homecoming artists are very nice as well.

What a wonderful recording of some of the greatest songs ever written and performed by some of the greatest performers in any field of music. Dottie Rambo is truly one of the finest of all time.

Actually, the bulk of the video was filmed in April of 1998. You are right about the wait and also about the fact that it does make it appear to be dated. However, on the plus side it was made in the Gaither time period when the spirit flowed a bit more generously vs a major singing production. That is not a slam because nearly anything Gaither has done past or present is incredible. I miss the personal touch the first videos had, even if the production wasn't as great as it is now. Thanks for an incredible review. You hit everything on target, however the most touching moment for me is Dottie joining Vestal on a tag of the Holy Hills and the love they show each other as they look at each other and hug. If you don't cry there you never will!

I have watched this Tribute to Dottie Rambo 25 times or more and LOVE IT! I love hearing Dottie sing her own songs, more than anyone else singing them ... my only "negative" comment, if you can call it such ...would be ..they should've had more moments like Dottie w/ the Crabb Family. Still, it was GREAT to see all those wonderful talents in one setting, singing the songs God wrote through Dottie. One thing I noticed right away is NO ONE struggled w/ the words to any of the songs, can't say that with every Bill Gaither production I've seen. In almost all of them, you catch someone mouthing the wrong words. NOT in this Tribute to Dottie! Why? Because her songs are SO WELL KNOWN and SO WELL LOVED !! Why? Because the are SO WELL WRITTEN !!! Thanks to Bill and Gloria Gaither for the fine job they did in putting this Tribute together for all of us who love Dottie so much !!! And thanks to all the artists who performed on it, and for the way they showed their love and admiration for Dottie. She will NOT take God's glory and rightfully so, but it is SO REFRESHING to see her appreciated as she should be!!

Such a wonderful video - give it five FULL stars!!!!! For me the timing was better now than it would have been 4-5 years earlier. Why you ask? Because it brought the greats like Vestal, Jake, etc back once more. What a wonderful writer of songs!
