As the title indicates, this recording is "Anything but Ordinary…Everything but Typical" for the Dove Brothers Quartet. Known for reviving classics from the golden years of Traditional Quartet Music, the DBQ have stepped out recording a whole recording of mostly all new material and kicks things up a few notches in the process. This recording brings me back somewhat to my favorite DBQ recording of all time, "Flying High" from 5 years ago.

The unique title song, "ANYTHING BUT ORDINARY, EVERYTHING BUT TYPICAL" features Eric Dove and sets the pace for the recording and leads right into the novelty tune penned by Sandy Knight called, "GOSSIP THE GOSPEL", which offers some excellent advice. Two other Knight penned tunes are the heartfelt, "ONE MORE MIRACLE" (featuring an excellent performance by David Hester) and the peppy, "HAVE A NICE DAY", which features Jerry Martin.

The highly invigorating "WHEN HE CAME WALKING" makes for a great quartet moment before things finally slow down for the big ballad, "MASTERPIECE" , which was written and features McCray Dove. McCray recorded this song about 12 years ago with the Dixie Melody Boys and it's still a great, moving song.

"JUST IMAGINE THAT" is an exciting uptempo tune reminding us of the many things that Heaven holds, while the song "BELIEVING IS SEEING" is a beautiful song of faith that it's not the seeing that makes believing real, it's simply by believing and having faith in a God who loves us.

The final two songs "IT'S WAITING FOR ME" and the easy flowing, "IT'S CALLED HEAVEN" were written by McCray and are excellent examples of what really great traditional male quartet music is all about.

One way to gauge how successful a recording can potentially be is by how many new fans it can win over. I believe this newest recording by the DBQ could really win over some new fans (who otherwise would not have listened to the DBQ), while not even remotely alienating the ones they already have. This is a landmark recording for the DBQ and is a totally extraordinary, atypical piece of work!

Personal Favs: ANYTHING BUT ORDINARY, EVERYTHING BUT TYPICAL; ONE MORE MIRACLE; HAVE A NICE DAY; WHEN HE CAME WALKING; IT'S WAITING FOR ME; IT'S CALLED HEAVEN

I heard this group on the Gospel Greats program a few weeks ago, and ever since, I have fallen in love with their music. My favorite songs on the project are, Anything but Ordinary, One More Miracle, and Have a Nice Day. The reason why I like the first one is, because, it really is a great song that will uplift your spirit. The other 2-It's because of the songwriter (Sandy Knight). I am privileged to say that she is my cousin! Also, Have a Nice Day reminds me of the song she wrote a few years ago, "The Next Cloud". One More Miracle really touches my heart, because I know her father(of whom the song was wrote about). Thanks for the great review!!!!!!!!
