The Down East Boys have always been known for their energetic stage persona, and they finally have released a recording that aptly shifts their exciting stage performance onto the confines of a studio recording.  These guys have always had a slick, first class sound and they are one of the best male quartets out there today.  This could be the recording that will finally make people sit up and take notice.

The recording starts off with the popular “ABARAHAM’S RAM”, which has previously been recorded and charted by the Journeymen Quartet and DEB does an excellent job before moving on the big band stylings of “GOD CAN DO ANYTHING”.

The Cajun flavored, “WHOLE LOT OF MERCY” is the exciting first single from the recording and it features tenor, Jason Runnels.  This is one of those songs that will stay with you and you’ll find yourself hitting the repeat button quite often.

Baritone vocalist, Ronnie Bright sings the exuberant “I’M SAVED” which is backed with a choir, which adds to the excitement of the song.  The enthusiasm continues with the uptempo, “WAIT A LITTLE WHILE” which is an exciting quartet song written by Curtis Hyler (ie-“Get up, Get Ready” by Gold City).
Ricky Carden turns in a masterful performance on the beautifully done arrangement of the Dottie Rambo classic, “SHELTERED IN THE ARMS OF GOD”.  This is one of the major highlights of the recording.

Ronnie is featured once again on the song, “WHEN I PRAY”, while bass vocalist, Stuart Carey does a good job on the campmeeting style of “SWEET GLORY THERE”.  Jason takes his turn on the power ballad, “THE ONE”, which I imagine goes over very well in concert.

rendition of the classic, “SHOUTING ON THE HILLS”, which closes out the recording.  You’ll be hitting the repeat button a lot with this tune, complete with a choir and lots of key changes.  The only thing missing is an encore…and a couple more key changes!

The one issue I have with this recording echo what Deon Unthank said in the comment section of my review of their last recording…there are no songwriter credits listed.  Luckily, I knew who wrote a couple of the tunes, but otherwise, the listener is left in the dark as to who wrote what.  (Forgive me; I’m a credits freak)  I know group member, Jason Runnels wrote a couple, but I have no clue which ones.  Other than that, this is possibly their greatest work to date.

Personal Favs: ABRAHAM’S RAM; WHOLE LOT OF MERCY; WAIT A LITTLE WHILE; SHELTERED IN THE ARMS OF GOD; SHOUTING ON THE HILLS

I have to agree with Danny and Deon about the lack of songwriter credits. This is a pet peeve of mine. In fact I mentioned this to Ricky Carden when the DEB were up here last year. (This was concering their previous project) He said something to the effect that they had been in a hurry to get the CD done and it would have delayed it to get all the song info included. I don't have this new CD yet although I did see them in concert this summer and heard some of the songs. I know that Jason wrote "Whole Lot Of Mercy" because they mentioned that in concert. It's a good song. But, I agree that songwriters (and producers) are usually overlooked by many fans, and I am sad to see the writers overlooked by the artists, too.

The DEB did a great job with this album. They helped me out with a gospel concert we had here, in Iraq, by sending me the soundtrack to "What a prayer can do". I was able to minister and had a great time singing.
They also sent me a complementary copy of "Mercy". I have been blessed by all the music. My personal favorite is "I'm Saved". Great work guys, keep it up! Thanks again for helping me out!
