The Down East Boys have always been known for first class singing. This collaborative effort between the boys and Wayne Haun takes them to a whole new level of class. This is one of the finest recordings released for the year 2007, and the best recording these guys have released since the groups inception 25 years ago. Yes.it's that good!

From the first orchestral notes of the uptempo Chris Binion/Kyla Rowland penned, "GREAT & MIGHTY GOD", you know you're listening to something really great, and that feel continues throughout the entire recording.

The title song, "THE CROSS STILL STANDS" features an exceptional performance from group leader and lead singer, Ricky Carden and leads well into the thought provoking "ONE LOOK TO HIS LEFT", written by Rodney Griffin, and features newest member, Daryl Paschal and is followed by what could possibly be the strongest song on the recording, "JUSTIFIED BY THE BLOOD OF THE LAMB". Written by Ricky Carden along with Chris Binion, the song features a commanding performance by Ricky and the boys, as well as a powerful message. I hope to see this song make it to radio before it's all said and done.

Stuart Cary is featured on the bluesy feel of "I'M TAKING MY JOY BACK" and provides an excellent bass feature, while tenor, Jason Runnels is featured on the classic song, "I WON'T HAVE TO CROSS JORDAN ALONE" and he does a marvelous job interpreting the song before the pace picks up for the upbeat, "I CALL HIM I AM".

Simple instrumentation more than adequately accents the blending of two great songs, "THERE'S JUST SOMETHING ABOUT THAT NAME" (one of my all time favorites) and the Mark Trammell penned, "WHAT WILL YOU DO FOR JESUS". This moment provides both a wonderful musical and lyrical moment and is the highlight of the recording.

The recording closes with the highly energetic "MOUNTAINS WILL BE SHAKEN" and the patriotic "AMERICA MEDLEY", which is extremely well done. I am generally a hard sell when it comes to patriotic tunes (don't ask me why); but the boys did good with this patriotic medley featuring "My Country Tis of Thee", "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" and "God Bless America".

These guys have worked hard to put out top quality music down through the years, and they pulled out all the stops with this latest release that is filled with massive arrangements, stellar vocals, slick music tracks and a crop of great songs. The only bad thing is trying to come up with a recording to top this in a couple of years, as this will be the recording to beat.

Song titles:
1 - Great & Mighty God
2 - The Cross Still Stands
3 - One Look to His Left
4 - Justified By the Blood of the Lamb
5 - I'm Taking my Joy Back
6 - I Won't Have to Cross Jordan Alone
7 - I Call Him I Am
8 - Something About That Name/What Will You Do With Jesus?
9 - Mountains Will Be Shaken
10-America Medley

I have always loved Down East and their commitment to the ministry. They are all great friends and stewards of the Gospel. Ricky is one of the most Dynamic lead singers in the industry today and Stuart does a great job holding down the low end. Love you guys and keep up the good work!

Is Ronnie Bright still with Down East? Went to their website and he is still on the bio page, but I didn't see his name mentioned on this review.
Just curious

these guys are the real deal. We sang with them a few weeks ago and they have quickly become close friends. If you want to know if southern gospel is in good hands, look no further than D.E.B. Love you guys! -Dusty with Crystal River

Great new album! The D.E.B were at my church last week. They did a great job! Don't miss them when they are in your area!

Maybe it was just me but I could've stood a bunch more songs like Great & Mighty God and Mountains Will Be Shaken. Sure, a few great, power ballads are fine and good, but when they dominate a record it really drags the album down, in my opinion, but I may very possibly be alone. smile
