Along with the obvious points of being able to sing well and find great songs, one other trademark of a great group is having an identifiable and unique sound. When you come to the place where the moment their song comes on the radio and they start singing and you know exactly who it is, you've reached a great milestone. Eighth Day, though only been in existence for a short time, has reached that place. Boasting a pleasant, country sound, Eighth Day is a mixed trio destined to make their mark on the Southern Gospel community, and this latest released is poised to do to just that.

The recording starts off with the bouncy tune, "I WANNA GO HOME" before slowing things down for the inspiring, "EVEN THEN".

Rehashing a familiar theme, the uptempo, "HE WOULD HAVE DONE IT ANYWAY" reminds us that if it had been for just one person, Christ would have come and sacrificed himself anyway.

The easy flow of "LET GO AND HOLD ON" is a great play on words reminding us to . . . "let go of the worries . . . let go of the heartaches . . . let go of the guilt . . . let 'em wash away, hold on to forgiveness, love and mercy . . . hold to the grace you find at His feet . . . He'll restore the joy . . . if you'll let go and hold on."

The fun tune, "GONNA GET LEFT" offers a great message before things slow back down for the song, "WORK IN PROGRESS", which reminds us that our life is a continual work in progress. The song boasts the musical feel of a country ballad and fits Eighth Day perfectly, as does the medium tempo, "LIVING WATER".

The real triumph of this recording is the power ballad, "ROLLED AWAY STONE". Somewhat of a departure for Eighth Day, it fits them perfectly and I hope it gets released to radio before it's all said and done.

Southern Gospel sounds abound on the medium tempo, "SAFE IN HIS LOVING ARMS" before things close out with the tender, "WHEN YOU KNOW WHERE THEY ARE".

The tracks are great and are not overdone at all; they actually compliment the vocals extremely well. With most songs coming from the pens of Monty Allen, Robert Arthur and Eric Childers, all the songs are very strong lyrically. There is a lack of some variety lyric-wise, but these guys seem to put to pen exactly what fits Eighth Day's style. Also, mention must be given to cover work on the CD. I love it . . . it's different and definitely outside of the box for the average Southern Gospel.

Eight Day is an awesome group that deserves much more recognition than they have received to date. They're wonderful people, wonderful singers, and wonderful Christians. Buy this CD if you haven't already. Its great, and should have gotten 5 stars!!!
