Embrace – Walk His Way
![]() Producer: Kevin McManus Embrace is a relatively new group that I came across earlier this year. They have a very sweet sound and are a rare breed of artists who are seemingly meant to sing together. This is one of those groups of singers who seem to have a perfect blend and have impeccable harmony. In my opinion, they are a cross between the Booth Brothers, Ruppes and Nelons. Right out of the gate is the energetic, uptempo tune "I'LL WATCH THE SKY". Things then move on to the progressively smooth sounds of the title song, "WALK HIS WAY". The following song, "SURRENDER" is a beautiful song reminding us that "the sweetest victory of all is surrender…the sweetest battle ever won was on your knees…the sweetest sound to your soul is the sound of letting go…just surrender to the Lord." I think there's an excellent single possibility with this song. The pace picks back up with the big band stylings of "CHILD OF THE KING" before moving on to the unassuming "HE KNOWS THE WAY HOME" (which reminds of something Dallas Holm would have recorded back in his prime). Probably my favorite on the recording, the song features a smooth performance and reassuring message, and I find myself just closing my eyes and soaking in the music and message of the song. Another song that falls into a similar vein musically is the soothing, "VOICE OF THE FATHER". The uptempo, "HALLELUJAH KIND OF TIME" is typical Southern Gospel fare, while "I'M GONNA LIVE FOREVER" offers Southern Gospel with a hint of Jamaican seasoning, while the uptempo, "THIS LITTLE LIGHT" (which also features the Embrace children) offers Southern Gospel with a touch of country, complete with fiddle and steel guitar. The bluesy "I'VE GOT HIM", the medium tempo, "OUT OF THIS WORLD" and the upbeat Praise & Worship style of "TIME FOR WORSHIP" rounds out the recording and provides us with some excellent listening material. When compared to their previous recording, "After the Rain" , this newest release I think is more in tune with who Embrace is musically and though it's definitely Southern Gospel, it takes things up a notch musically for the group. Also, Embrace seemed to have found a niche recording songs written by Patty Hawkins, as several songs on this recording were either written or co-written by her and the songs seem to fit Embrace like a glove. Fans of the Ruppes, LordSong, Nelons and the like will thoroughly enjoy Embrace. As for me, I am looking to hear a lot more from this group and feel this recording could be their "coming out" recording. There's some great stuff here! Personal Favs: I'LL WATCH THE SKY; WALK HIS WAY; SURRENDER; HE KNOWS THE WAY HOME; I'M GONNA LIVE FOREVER; VOICE OF THE FATHER Reader Comments
