Exactly one year ago, I reviewed the Frosts previous recording, “Through His Eyes” and immediately fell in love with their vocal sound and musical style. My one complaint was the actually quality of that recording. Since that release, they have signed with Eddie Crook, and they've taken that quality up a few notches and have put together a fine recording, which features mostly the writings of Michael Frost. Michael is shaping up to be one the finest songwriters in the industry, and this recording is proof of that fact.

“THE ARRIVAL” is the catchy title song and asks the question “Are you ready for the arrival?” This highly enjoyable tune, coupled with a bridge of the old favorite “When Jesus Comes in the Clouds” is a highlight of the recording and challenges the church to “…labor for the Lord until that mighty trumpet sounds…”

Offering hope to those steeped in hopelessness, the Frosts slow things down and declare in song that “WHATEVER YOUR CROSS”, we can cast those cares on the Lord and He will take the cross we bare, no matter how heavy. There are several songs on here that bring hope and comfort in times of despair. Songs such as “ONE DAY CLOSER TO HOME”, the very Southern Gospel sounding “THERE'S STILL MY JOY”, “I'LL TAKE GOD'S WORD FOR IT” and the heartfelt closing number, “THE ALTAR” , all seem to let us peek into the heart of Michael Frost as through his songs, we find great uplifting messages.

Picking up the pace, the big voice of Brenda Livesay is featured on “THAT'S HOW A MIRACLE FEELS” which has a good Pentecostal campmeeting sound to it, while “PAINT A PICTURE”, written by Brenda's mother, Jean Cornett, slows things down and allows us to reflect on the cross and what Christ did for us.

“ALL HAIL THE KING” is one of those songs that will fly under the radar. Great lyrics and an unassuming arrangement is part of what makes this song rather interesting for me. I find myself listening to this song quite often and soaking in the message …”a King whose crown was made of thorns, whose precious Name was mocked a scorned, still His royal blood my sins to atone, one day I'll bow at His feet, and He won't be hanging on a tree, He'll be there on His heavenly throne, praises we will shout and sing, as we all hail the King.”

Picking up the pace Candie does a tremendous job on “I WANNA BE LIKE THAT” which was written by Amy Belisle and is one of those tunes that will stick with you.

This recording takes a slight turn towards a more country sound, leaning a bit away from the black, Pentecostal sound that I loved so much on their previous recording. One thing I liked is the nice pace of the songs. The songs are evenly placed, so there is no chance of getting bored. The production quality of this recording far exceeds their previous effort and the overall package with the songs, music and vocals is exceptional. I do miss the big power ballads like “Three Words, Three Nails, Three Days” , but there are still plenty of great songs on here. The Frosts are a group to definitely watch. With the talents of this group as a whole and Michael's songwriting, the possibilities for this group are endless.

Personal Favs: THE ARRIVAL; ONE DAY CLOSER TO HOME; THERE'S STILL MY JOY; ALL HAIL THE KING; I WANNA BE LIKE THAT; THE ALTAR
