One of the more interesting ways of comparing the quality of Southern Gospel Music to other genres is comparing Christmas music. Gold City passes this quality test hands down. For what ever reason, which doesn’t bother me at all, we allow secular songs on our Gospel groups Christmas projects. This one is not over loaded, but has a few, to draw a good comparison. “Let It Snow” let’s Jonathan show off his talents and he does it quite well.

As I was listening to “Winter Wonderland”, a lady passing through the room said, “Now that’s some Christmas music I can really like. It sounds like that country group I really like.” I said, “You mean the Oak Ridge Boys”, and she said “Yea that’s them”. I say that only to prove my point about the “commercial ability” of this project.

You can tell that “the boys” were coming out as they sing a Children’s Medley” of songs including “Rudolph”, “Frosty The Snowman”, and “Up On The Housetop”. Tim Riley does a really nice job of bringing out the Christmas Spirit with his rendition of “Holly Jolly Christmas”

Moving on to the sacred side of the recording they open with a strong a Capella arrangement of “Angels From The Realms Of Glory”. Then they move on to a rousing performance of “Go Tell It On The Mountain”, where Danny Riley cuts a rug. While “Why Can’t Every Day Be Like Christmas” may not exactly be a sacred song, the message is so strong it could be. This would be my favorite song of the CD if it weren’t for the fantastic job they do on “I Have Seen The Light”

Other songs include “It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas” and “The First Noel”

I enjoyed listening to this recording a couple of times last night after seeing Gold City in concert. It's definitely a step up in quality from their last seasonal recording . . . _Home For The Holidays_. For one thing, it's a little bit longer. For another, the production quality is better.

My rating is 4 stars.

"I Have Seen The Light" is a great Christmas song. Deon and I see eye to eye in proclaiming it to be the best song on this recording.

They could have stuck "That Little Baby" on this recording as a bonus cut, even though it's already on _Walk The Talk_.

Their Christmas cd is awesome. My favorite song is Go Tell It On The Mountain. Danny does a great job on it. Every song is great as usual.
