From the moment I discovered their music about 17 years ago, I have been a huge fan of the Goss Brothers. Their music was WAY before their time. I don't think Gospel Music will ever fathom the tremendous musical contributions these three gentlemen made to this industry. Featuring tunes from 1963-1979, this is a wonderful collection of songs highlighting the musical career of the Goss Brothers.

The recording starts with one of my all time favorite songs, "SHOUT BROTHER, SHOUT" (no one has been able to top the Goss Brothers rendition of this song) and moves to another favorite of mine "HE'S LIVING IN MY HEART". We are weaved through ageless Goss Brother classics and highly favored tunes like "HOW GREEN IS YOUR VALLEY", "LEADING TO CALVARY", "DIDN'T IT RAIN", "SWING LOW, SWEET CHARIOT", "HE HAS THE ANSWER, "CLOSE TO THE MASTER", "AFTER ALL", "LET THE LOWER LIGHTS BE BURNING", "IN THE PALM OF HIS HAND", "SOMETIMES IT SEEMS", "I GAVE MY HEART TO HIM", "HE'S SO GOOD TO ME" and a host of other tunes; totaling 33 songs in all.

The highlight of the recording though, is the inclusion of three never before released songs from the group from 1979, before James Goss was tragically killed in an airplane accident in 1980. Those songs, "CORNERSTONE", "LONG AND WINDING ROAD" and "ANYONE CAN MOVE A MOUNTAIN" are true testaments of their talent as singers and musicians.
Everyone could learn a thing or two by listening to the Goss Brothers. Great harmony, precision singing and innovative arrangements are what you find in each and every song. Technically, there were none no better than the Goss Brothers. This is ear candy at its best!

You are exactly right about the Goss Brothers being ahead of their time, in every way. I started buying Goss Brothers records in the 1960s (Lari and I are the same age). And one year at NQC, at that booth where you can buy the vintage records and videos from years past, I paid a large amount of money for a Goss Brothers record album that still had the plastic on it (worth every penny!). Mark Trammell followed me all over the exhibit hall trying to get that record from me. I am SO excited about this new release and can't wait to get my copy. Their arrangements, their harmonies...everything about their singing was TOPS. Thanks for this, Goss Brothers, and God bless you!

John Scheideman's avatar James, I'm glad you chose to review this album.

I would say that this collection is an ESSENTIAL one for anyone who purports to be a fan of gospel music, or anyone who claims to enjoy "progressive" gospel music, and who wants to know what that was back in the 1960s and 1970s.

Morning glory and evening grace,

Giving the world a smile each day,

"The Top of The Hill" will always be my favorite. "When I reach the top of the hill, when I've gone the last long mile, when I come to journeys end, I'll be welcomed by a Friend, Who's been guiding and watching over me. Are there any more comforting words than these? Yes, there are, two CD's full.

The Goss Brothers is my absolute favorite gospel groups of all time. When Lari and I work together, I always get info out of him about how the recordings were made or a road story. My grandad used to park Dad in front of the TV and make him watch the Bob Poole Show when the Goss Brothers were on, I guess it worked!
