Greg Day2002/Ark Music Group

Best known as co-writer of one of Southern Gospel’s classic songs, “Midnight Cry”, Greg Day has released a new solo CD featuring a few of his better known songs, as well as some new ones.  I never really realized what a super songwriter Greg Day was until I listened to this CD.  This guy is one of the most underrated songwriters in Southern Gospel music.  Each of the songs on this CD were either written solely by Greg, or co-written with such people as Phil Robinson, Phil Johnson, Richard Harris and his own brother, Chuck Day.

Greg definitely has his own style, and is pretty versatile in his musical approach as well.  He does straight ahead Southern Gospel, turns around and does something that borders CCM and then breaks into plain ole’ country gospel.  This CD spans those styles, and most people will be able to find something they really like on this CD.

WHEN JESUS RETURNS” is Greg’s current single, and it should do very well for him.  Other songs to give a close listen to are “MERCY’S GIFT”, “GOD HEARS”, and “A FRESH GLIMPSE OF CALVARY.”  Greg also recorded the current release Ivan Parker is running with called “BE BLESSED” and Greg does a great job on it.  Another song I really enjoy is the song “WHAT I BELIEVE.”  Also recorded by LordSong, Greg does a fantastic job on this upbeat song, as well as another LordSong favorite, “I’LL CONSIDER MY SOURCE.”  Greg also does a good job on his own rendition of his signature classic, “MIDNIGHT CRY.”

I have followed Greg’s songwriting and singing career for quite a number of years now.  From singing with the Accords, to several incarnations of his own group the Days, Greg has now embarked on a new journey as a soloist.  With pen in hand, Greg has an endless pool of songs to choose from and record, and I think we will be hearing a lot more from not just Greg Day the songwriter, but Greg Day the singer!
