Joyaires – Abundant Grace
![]() Producer: Roger Talley/Ernie Peters Consisting of husband and wife team, Ernie and Debbie Peters along with Scott McCormick, the Joyaires have a down to earth, sincere country feel to their music with a hint of an old fashioned campmeeting. If your musical persuasion leans more towards artists like the McKameys, Singing Cookes, and the like, you'd probably really enjoy the Joyaires. The medium tempo "SETTLE DOWN" which is the CD opener, sets the pace for the recording as most of the songs here fall into the medium to slow tempo range. Kyla Rowland penned a couple of tunes on this recording and those songs, "UNTIL I'VE SEEN THE SAVIOR" (formerly recorded by the Whisnants) and "YOU'LL HAVE TO STEP OVER GOD'S GRACE" are both done very well by the group. With its reassuring message, "FROM THIS SIDE OF THE STORM" is a highlight of the recording for me, while the song "WITHOUT JESUS IN MY HEART" just doesn't really work for me. While I appreciate the message in the song, it just doesn't seem to really fit the Joyaires. The campmeeting atmosphere of "WHEN I GO BACK" and "UNCLEAN" seem to be the songs that work best for the Joyaires and their style and are the biggest highlights of the recording for me. A young writer from the Phillips Family named Stephen Phillips wrote the oft recorded "MORE GRACE" and the uptempo, "I'M GONNA LIVE LIKE HE'S ALIVE". Other songs on this recording include "THANK YOU LORD" and "HIDE AND SEEK". While overall I think this is a good, solid effort by the Joyaires, I think it falls a bit short of their previous recording entitled, "It's Real." While there isn't any one thing in particular that makes their previous release better for me, I think maybe overall the song selection was better on their previous effort. Outside of that, the music tracks are excellent and the vocals are good and the group still retains the style that they are known for. Personal Favs: UNTIL I'VE SEEN THE SAVIOR; FROM THIS SIDE OF THE STORM; YOU'LL HAVE TO STEP OVER GOD'S GRACE; WHEN I GO BACK; UNCLEAN Reader Comments |
