Kyla Rowland & Deliverance - “IV”

It is no secret that, next to Rusty Goodman and Dottie Rambo, Kyla Rowland is my favorite songwriter.  It is also no secret that I am a huge fan of Kyla Rowland & Deliverance!  By some people’s standards they may not be considered the most polished sounding singers, but they sing under an anointing like few artists I know.  They can literally blow any group off the stage by just the sheer power they sing with.  I confess that few artists move me like Kyla Rowland & Deliverance can.  With this, their fourth recording aptly titled “IV”, Kyla and the gang showcase some of Kyla’s latest and greatest songs, as well as a couple of older ones and they even threw in a couple that she didn’t write.  Add in some great music tracks and their trademark vocal style, you have all the ingredients for one of the best recordings they have ever done.

“OH WHAT A WONDERFUL PROMISE” gets things started reminding us that through we face adversity, God will “give His power to the weak and weary, and today on this promise I will stand.”

In the world today, there aren’t a lot of things that matter to a child of God.  “THAT’S ALL THAT MATTERS TO ME” says it all for a Christian…“mercy says I’m saved, for grace said forgiven, hope says there’s a Heaven for me eternally, the cross says ‘I love you’, the grave says I can’t hold you, and that’s all that matters to me.”

Going back and digging out one of Kyla’s older songs, Bill Martin does a super job singing “STILL THRILLED.”  Though it may become old to some, the group proudly proclaims they are still thrilled about the promises in His Word.

“THIS JORDAN” would be an excellent quartet song that features a really neat bass part by Barry, Kyla’s son.  Combining with the quartet classic “Roll on Jordan”, this is a highly unusual song that is extremely enjoyable to listen to.

One of my favorite songs on this recording is the insightful “UNTIL I START LOOKING AHEAD.”  The way may seem rough, dark and bleak, but just imagining your first step into Heaven…“I see banners waving in a land called Heaven, saying here not one tear will be shed…” makes the way not seem as hard.  This is a shouting song if there ever was one!

The upbeat “HE’S IN THE HOUSE” reminds us all that where two or more are gathered, He is in the midst.  He delights at the praises of His people and where the Spirit is, there is liberty.

“THE CHURCH IS ALIVE AND WELL” is one of the two songs on this recording that Kyla did not write, and this is a hit song waiting to happen.  Though all of hell rages against the church, it is still alive and well and no power can defeat God’s church!  The song reminds me of my favorite passage of scripture, 2 Corinthian 4:8-9…we may be cast down, but we’re not destroyed!  This is another shouting, running the aisle song…“Glory, Glory Hallelujah…the Church is alive and well!”

The other song Kyla did not write is the victorious “WHO I AM,” which ironically features Kyla.  With fiddle and steel guitar, this song is country gospel through and through.  When this song is over, you too will be rejoicing because of who you are, and Whose you are!

One of the most unusual songs, musically, that Kyla has written, is the reassuring “I’M HERE.”  Just as a parent would do for a child who is hurting and afraid, Jesus too takes us in His arms and says, “…it’s okay, I’m here and I know.”

Once again digging back into the Kyla Rowland achieves, they revive the up-tempo “I’VE GOT IT MADE.”  We may not have much in worldly goods, but by Heavenly standards, we’ve got it made!

This recording opened up with a song about God’s promises, how appropriate it is to close with a song about His promises.  “THE PAST IS A PROMISE” is an unusual song reminding us that though your prayers may seem like they are not being answered, remember he brought Moses through the wilderness, saved Noah and his family, and you too can “go back to every prayer He’s answered…the past is a promise you’ll have all that you need.”

I will admit this is a group that I have a really hard time not being partial to.  Simply put, I love them and I love their music.  They are simple people, with a simple message to share to the world.

Kyla,
I sing with soundtracks at our little churh in Blountville, Tennessee and I heard your song that Kirk Talley and Janet Paschal does "Field of Grace" It is so beautiful. God has blessed you with your talent of gifted songwriting. I have found Kirk singing it but I need the performance track so I might sing it. Could someone let me know how I might purchase one? I appreciate all you do for the Glory of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. May God continue to Bless You as you share your Love of Christ through your songs.
