Legacy Five - London

Daywind Records

No doubt in my mind, this is the best project that Legacy Five has made to date. Following in the footsteps of their mentors, The Cathedral Quartet, Daywind took this fine group of men over to London, England, where the London Philharmonic Orchestra performed the sound tracks on many of these songs. Needless to say, the tracks are phenomenal.

The CD opens with a very worshipful song, “Holy Is Thy Name”. You can just sit back, close your eyes and have church in your living room while listening to this cut. Once again, the track really set the mood for the whole song as well as the CD.

They did reach back and get one old song. “I’ve Got That Old time Religion” is a great toe tapper. “He Forgets” features Lead singer Scott Fowler. The message is strong, and Scott expresses it well. Don’t forget the track, as it adds a lot of dynamics to this song.

Bass singer Glen Dustin shows his wares on “Meanwhile”. You’ll hear some mean horns as well as some pretty low singing on this tune.  The second Scott in the group, Scott Howard takes the lead on “Mercy Extended”. This song has a bit of a “country” flare to it. The message of hope comes through loud and clear as Scott’s “laid back” feel makes the listener feel mellow while taking it all in.

Using a touch of a traditional sound, “The God Who Comes Through” shows great harmony and group expression.  “Storms I Never See” brings the talents of Tenor singer Tony Jarman to the forefront. The thought of what God keeps us from going through comes out loud and clear.

My favorite song on the CD is “I Found Grace”. This one features a line or two of every part, and the tempo will keep you tapping your foot with the music. “Committed To The Cause Of Christ” is a powerful ballad.

In this reviewers opinion the only weakness in this CD is that four of the songs feature the piano player. Roger Bennett is featured on “Home Free”. “It’s Good To Know”, Joy”, and “Home Free”. While Roger does a fine job on theses songs, in my opinion it takes vocal parts away that the singers could be doing. Although Roger is featured on four songs, he doesn’t perform anything on the piano, which is his chosen part in the group. I would prefer to hear the pianist play, using his God given talents in that area.

This project is a two CD set, which also includes a DVD with scenes from their trip to London. Just a little extra for your money.

I thought this CD was a mixed bag. The music tracks do sound great, as Deon has said. The whole London concept is interesting, especially with the DVD bonus. The song selection is decent. The biggest let down is that the vocal arrangements often opt for complex chord structures when added passion and energy would have taken these tunes to a more personal level. I would give London three and a half stars.

I just bought my copy last night, and was very impressed with the music tracks. L5 doesn't have the smoothest vocal sound, in my opinion. But they do a good job and was impressed with some of what I heard on the CD. I think they could have done a little better with the song selection. I would give the CD 4 stars. It was interesting to hear them Wayne Watson's classic "Home Free."

I have had this CD since late January; I love the project!! I think that Wayne Haun did an outstanding job producing this group's first project for Daywind. In my opinion, this group is only getting better!

I have all six of L5's CD's and this one is the best. I love the sound they create, and I don't think that there is anything I don't like about them. If you don't have this project yet, you need to get it!

Legacy Five is my favorite quartet and my copy of "London" just arrived today. It's not my favorite one by them (the "Heritage" Vols. 1 and 2 are!), but I think it's a good CD. I was very pleased that the orchastra didn't overpower the guys voices--very well mixed. The choice of songs was nice too. I think it's a great CD, sung by a great quartet! I personally think Roger has a great voice and am glad they featured him on some songs on this CD. I would give this CD a 4-3/4 out of 5 stars!

I picked up my copy of "London" over the weekend. The arrangements by Wayne Haun are top notch and the tracks are unmatched. I'm a huge fan of L5 anyway, but the project almost seemed over produced. I missed the more traditional feel of past projects by L5. Don't get me wrong, I love this project. Message is powerful, tracks are amazing, vocals are great, but it just didn't reach me like past projects. I give it 3.75 out of 5 stars.

Following along in Glen Payne and George Younce's footsteps, Scott Fowler and Roger Bennett have by the grace of God led L5 to a new level of success. The Cathedrals' best recordings were usually those incorporating amazing orchestral music in the background which always adds a great intensity to the already great lyrics and songs. Especially using the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the new London album is awesome (and I don't even own it yet; I just listened to it in the store so far). I cannot wait to get my own copy!

I bought the London cd about a month ago, and I just love it. I bought the cd for "I found Grace", but I fell in love with all the other songs as well. Keep singing about GOD's Grace. We love you and GOD bless.

I love London! Roger Bennett has a great voice, and I just love how he sings "Home Free". "Committed To The Cause Of Christ" really means alot to me because I became I Christian last January, and I love singing it because I am "Committed to the cause of Christ". I don't have a DVD player yet I can't wait to watch the behind-the-scenes footage. You will love London!!!

Legacy Five is a great group but I'm not much on heavy orchestra for gospel music. I much prefer the traditional instruments. I have the CD and it is good. I especially like "I Found Grace".
