imageLabel - Daywind Records
Produced by Wayne Haun
Executive Producer:  Dottie Leonard Miller
After having two well recieved albums and a splendid a capella project, LordSong is back with Refuse to Be Afraid, their fourth project for Daywind Records.  Never being a group to be held back by industry demands or genre boundaries, LordSong once again has created an album chock full of songs that feed the spirit and delight the ears.  On their first two album, LordSong dabbled in progressive Southern Gospel with a dash of country to create a sound all their own.  This time around, the group takes the same formula and stirs in quite a bit of country, americana and bluegrass flavorings.  The album starts off with the beautiful ballad “His Love is Greater”, showcasing the extraordinary vocal talents of Kim Ruppe Lord.  The ballads are overwhelmingly present on this album, totally 10 of the 14 tracks in total.  This isn’t a bad thing, because the ballads truly accentuate the tight harmonies the group is known for having.  “I Refuse to Be Afraid” and “He Didn’t Have the Heart” both show Michael Lord in top vocal form.  In fact, this disc does nothing but prove that Michael Lord is perhaps the most underrated male vocalist in the industry.  New member, Amber Franks gets her chance to shine on mid-tempo ballad “Let Your Light Shine” and the inspirational-radio-hit-in-the-making “Stronger For It”.  Country flavorings are expressed throughout the disc, but are most prevalent in the up tempo “I’m Gonna Sing”, a track that would find itself right at home on a Shania Twain or Faith Hill disc.  Lyrically, the album goes beyond your typical Southern Gospel album on the disc’s standout track, “Stronger For It”.  The song speaks of human weakness and a Christians walk being strengthened for it in the end, a topic often shyed away from in SG circles.  Overall, if you are a fan of today’s progressive SG sounds and country flavorings as made popular by The Martins or Crabb Family, then you can’t go wrong with LordSong.  Michael Lord and Amber Franks are vocally amazing on this record, and anyone who considers themselves a fan should not go without this album in their collection.  Years from now, LordSong will be seen as a group way ahead of their time.

5 stars in my book as well. "Stronger For it" is by far the best song, lyrcially on here. Although I fear it may get lost in the shuffle, I hope the song rises to the top. "While I Wait" is fav as well.

Excellent song. LordSong always has strong, positive songs in their repretoire, and with the outstanding vocals and musical arrangements, how can they go wrong?

I agree with James..."Stronger For It" is an awesome song with a phenominal and really brave message...So the title of this project fits! I cried when I listened to it. I thought ...Lord, that I would be willing to be blind if it meant I could see you better. I love Lordsong! Wonderful group!

I like all of LordSong's recordings including this new one. I listened to it a few times and thought it was maybe a notch under _Day 3_, which is my favorite LordSong project so far. I'd probably go with a 4 or 4 1/2 rating.

WOW! what a sound! This new project shows the phenominal talent compiled by these three great singers AND IT'S NOT A NOTCH UNDER ANY PROJECT. "Stronger For It" is also my vote for the best song, great lyrics, awesome job Amber! (5 stars on this project)

Awesome recording. One of the best I've heard in a while. If you had a 6 star rating I'd give it 6.

I have to say, this is another awesome project from LordSong. I've loved them from the start. Of course, if we're naming favorites my fav. is "I Refuse To Be Afraid". This song, written by a dear friend of mine(Marty Funderburk) is so timely. In the world we live in today, we should be afraid to tell everyone how awesome Christ is.

First, let me say, if you get a chance to see LordSong live, don't pass it up! These folks are just as genuine as their harmonies are true. Their live performance will definitely make the goose bumps pop! Amber, Kim, and Michael, thank you for touching my life.

I rate "Refuse To Be Afraid" four stars. The CD is excellent quality, with excetional harmonies.
I, Personally, was disappointed with lack of up-tempo songs. Maybe it is just me looking for a more commercial product. "I'm Gonna Sing" is my favorite track, with "Stronger For It" causing the goose bumps.

"Day Three" is such an inspiration to me that I may not be giving "Refuse To Be Afraid" fair judgment, but I must admit I don't think there is a day go by that I don't listen to "Day Three".
I'm a true LordSong fan. May God bless you and I wish you the very best in your musical endeavors.
