Those that are really into the Gaither Homecoming videos may really enjoy this recording. Though there is no accompanying video, this is a very nice recording you can listen to. It doesn't feature any well-known Gospel Music legends, but it does feature some great singing by several part time artists from the Pillar Family Record label based out of eastern North Carolina. The group does concerts that are billed as “Gaither type events” and are quite popular in eastern North and South Carolina and Virginia.

Featuring various solo's from artists within the record company, and having all the artists forming a backup choir, the song selection showcases mostly tried and true favorites that many of us will remember and enjoy such as “MANSION OVER THE HILLTOP”, “COME AND DINE”, “LIVING BY FAITH”, “HE WALKS AND TALKS WITH ME”, “JESUS IS MINE” (always a favorite) , “I SAW THE LIGHT” (cool arrangement) , “THE LOVE OF GOD” and “WHERE WE'L NEVER GROW OLD”.

There are two songs that really stick out with me. “HEAVEN'S JUBILEE” almost sounds like the Speer Family from their Sue Dodge days. This is the only non-choir song on here and features a quartet of original members of the record label. I find myself listening to this song over and over again.

The dramatic rendition of “O COME ANGEL BAND” is another highlight for me. By the time the final chorus comes around, you too will be singing right along …”O come angel band…come and around me stand…”

For most of the songs, the tracks are very basic, but that isn't the focal point of this recording. It's the singing. This isn't a live recording, and I will confess, the group sounds like a really, really great Southern Gospel church choir. But that isn't a bad thing. Some may say, why buy this, when there are the Gaither Homecoming recordings? If you want something slightly different, with different, unknown singers, you may want to give it a try. There are some truly great singers and some wonderful singing found on here. I think it'd be worth your time to check it out.
