Bart Millard, the voice behind the awesome song, 'I Can Only Imagine,' and lead singer for the highly successful contemporary group Mercy Me, releases his first radio single to Southern Gospel.

"The record is called HYMNED," explains Bart, "which is sort of a play on words off of the sewing term "hemmed,' which I'm using in the sense that the experience of having these songs sung to me in my childhood is a big part of what has sewn my life together.

"The first single, called 'MawMaw's Song', really explains the whole record. The chorus is actually from 'In The Sweet By and By,' but the verses are mine, talking about my grandmother and upbringing. My sole criteria in choosing the ten songs I did were that these were the ten I remember her singing to me most vividly. There's nothing I've been more proud of than this album ... honestly."

Bart Millard's 'MawMaw's Song' has been released to Southern Gospel stations everywhere on our Sonrise Christian Voices November 2005 compilation disc. "Bart Millard, the voice behind the awesome song, 'I Can Only Imagine,'"

That's right, HE'S the voice behind the song. Anyway, I'm interested to hear what this sounds like. He has an awesome voice.

Not sure why, but a lot of people seem to put down contemporary music, I can only Imagine is an AWESOME song, I know people that could not stand that song, cause it was "contemporary" but when it was released Southern Gospel, that same song magically touched them. I love Southern Gospel, but I hate hearing SG artists try to record contemporary songs. I've never heard, contemporary artists cut a SG song. Best wishes to Bart, I would love to check out his CD.

Actually, I take back what I side, several contemporary groups have re-cut Midnight Cry. Must say, they did a wonderful job
