GADSDEN, Alab. – Gold City, Southern Gospel music’s premier male quartet, was honored this week with two SGN Music Awards. The awards were handed out at a special Awards Celebration on Tuesday evening, April 25, 2006 in Smyrna, Tennessee.
Gold City was honored with the Ovation for Traditional Southern Album of the Year for its critically acclaimed album Heaven. This was the second year in a row for the group to take home this particular award. Gold City tied with Ernie Haase & Signature Sound’s self-titled Gaither Music Group debut in the category.
Daniel Riley, manager and baritone for Gold City, was awarded his third consecutive Producer of the Year (Artist) award. He won the award with his brother Doug, who passed away earlier this year due to a tragic auto accident. Doug also posthumously won an Ovation for producing Heaven.
Daniel responded at the Award Celebration, “I have never really considered myself all that great a producer – but I’ve had the privilege of working with same really great artists this past year. Doug really was the greatest producer that I had ever met, and I am honored to win this award with him. I miss him greatly. I appreciate the support that the industry has shown Gold City and my family these past few months. Your kindness hasn’t gone unnoticed.”
The popular quartet also was nominated in the categories of Song of the Year (for “It’s Just Another Red Sea”), Album of the Year (for Heaven), Male Group of the Year, and Traditional Southern Song of the Year (“It’s Just Another Red Sea”). Daniel was also honored to receive his second career nomination in the category of Male Vocalist of the Year. He was previously nominated in the same category in 2004.
“Gold City has had a pretty rough start this year,” mentioned Deon Unthank of SouthernGospelNews.com, presenters of the SGN Music Awards. “I believe that the fans giving them these awards is a confirmation that they are behind Gold City and support the group 100%. I know that Gold City is anxious to see what God has in store them and their ministry in the coming months.”
Gold City has received a total of 27 career nominations in the SGN Music Awards. The group has won a total of six Ovations, including last year’s wins for Male Group of the Year, Producer of the Year (Daniel & Doug Riley), and Traditional Southern Album of the Year (for First Class).
The nominees for the SGN Music Awards were chosen by the staff of SouthernGospelNews.com, and the winners were then chosen by the fans and readers of SouthernGospelNews.com.
Gold City is currently preparing for the follow-up to their award winning and critically acclaimed albums First Class and Heaven. The new recording is being produced by Michael English and Michael Sykes and promises to be a career recording for the group.

About Gold City
Since the group's formation some 25 years ago in the historical gold rush town of Dahlonega, Georgia, Gold City has consistently remained at the top of their field. Songs like "In My Robe of White," and "I Think I'll Read It Again" were immediate successes during the group's earliest years. Since then, number one plaques have continued to compete for shelf space with industry awards in the Gold City office. The group has won over 60 Singing News Fan Awards, released over 30 recordings, won the 1993 Dove Award for Southern Gospel Song of the Year, and has been a member of the Alabama Music Hall of Fame since 1992.
