Songwriter Marijohn Wilkin, best known in gospel music for penning "One Day at a Time," died Saturday, Oct 28 at the age of 86. Learning that her 2003 triple by-pass had failed and that she was not a candidate for another surgery, Wilkin stated, "It's OK, I have my faith. I am ready to go. Don't be sad for me."
Though Wilkin may have been best known in gospel circles for "One Day At A Time" she was also known as the "den mother of Music Row" in Nashville, TN. She was a founder of the Nashville Songwriters Association, a nonprofit that advocates for songwriters. She was also well known for "The Long Black Veil," which was co-written with Danny Dill and recorded by such noteables as Lefty Frizzell, Joan Baez, Johnny Cash, The Band, The Kingston Trio, Burl Ives and many others.
