EDEN, NC - It has just been announced that a special North Carolina Governor's award presentation will be taking place this weekend at Morehead High School auditorium, in Eden, NC.
State Representative Nelson Cole, along with other high officials and representatives of the governor's office, will formally present the Hoppers -- Claude, Connie, Dean, Kim and Mike Hopper -- with the Order of the Long Leaf Pine Award, this Saturday, Nov. 24th, at 7:00 p.m. This unique state accolade is considered the most prestigious civilian honor that can be bestowed on any North Carolinian.
This presentation and recognition will likely be especially significant to this musical family, known nationally as America's Favorite Family Of Gospel Music, since it has always been their focus to faithfully represent Jesus Christ and share His life-changing good news to the world in song. Likewise, during their travels around the globe, they have also represented their hometown, county and state as unofficial goodwill ambassadors. The Hopper family has loved in the Rockingham County area for generations, since long before the Civil War era. In essence, Long Leaf Pine Award is the culmination of the Hoppers' fifty years of focused Christ-centered service and music ministry.
Also, during the Saturday event, the Hoppers will hold their Hopper Anniversary - Celebration 50 gala. The night of inspiring music will include powerful performances by the Hoppers, the Original Hopper Brothers and Connie, Greater Vision and saxophonist Dennis Sparks. Besides the governor's award presentation, other surprises are in store for concert attendees including an appearance by comedian and motivational speaker Wayne Hopper and other members of the family. The Hoppers will also kick off their Christmas Tour 2007.
Other Order of the Long Leaf Pine Award recipients over the years have included Michael Jordan, Maya Angelou, Charles Kuralt, Rev. Billy Graham, Bob Timberlake, Dr William Friday and other distinguished individuals. According to state officials, this award confers the same status as ambassador.
