EC&R was recently honored to record with sacred music legend, George Beverly Shea. Bev joined the group in recording the great classic hymn, "Haven of Rest," for EC&R's new project entitled, Pioneer Hymns. The project is schedule to release in January, 2008, and will feature fifteen all-time-favorite hymns from the 1800s.

"As we began working on this project we tried to think of which singer best exemplified the great hymns of the church and our immediate and unanimous conclusion was, George Beverly Shea" said group owner, Ernie Couch. Ernie added,"We were delighted to have this unique opportunity, and I believe we are only the third quartet, behind the legendary Statesmen and Blackwood Brothers, to have recorded a song, for specific release, with Mr. Shea."

Jason Couch, manager for EC&R said, "George Beverly Shea at ninety-eight is still ministering and sharing the gospel through song. His voice is as strong and commanding as ever. I especially enjoyed listening to Mr. Shea share about highlights of his lengthy music career. Most will remember his more than fifty years affiliation with the Billy Graham organization, dating back to the 1940s. Through the years Bev has recorded over seventy albums, the majority for RCA records. He introduced the world to "How Great Thou Art," and composed the music to "I'd Rather Have Jesus," and I understand that he is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as being the individual who has cumulatively sung in live performance to the most people, some 220 million! What an incredible person, and yet, what a humble, and Godly man."

"It was an amazing time, one I will not soon forget," injected bass singer, Matt Chaffin. "After the recording session was finished, we all went out to eat. When it came time to say grace over the meal, Mr. Shea asked that we join hands around the table, and then he sang the blessing. It was one of those strangely wonderful moments that gives you chills. I want to encourage everyone to be watching for this new hymns project. Pick-up a copy, and enjoy listening to this icon of gospel music."
