The Watkins Family — Judy, Todd, Shanon and Lorie return to the road with appearances at Hydes Chapel Baptist in Conyers, Georgia Feb. 23 at 7 p.m. and Martin Baptist Church in Martin, Ga. Feb. 24 at 7 p.m.
The group from Eastanollee, Ga. cancelled appearances following the sudden death Jan. 26 of family patriarch Donald H. Watkins in North Carolina following a performance.
"We needed a few weeks to come to grips with the loss of our Dad and to search and pray for God's will and guidance in our lives and ministry,” Lorie said. “We strongly feel that continuing the work and ministry that Dad and Mom started so many years ago is definitely what the Lord has for us to do."
The group also returns as its latest single “Darkness Wept,” from the CD of the same title, debuts at #71 on the Gospel Music News chart in March.
"After hearing the news of the positive reception that our latest single is receiving by radio and fans, it was like a confirmation that the Lord intends for this ministry to continue and grow to do His work just as Dad had dreamed for us when he and Mom first shared their love of music with each one of us,” she said.
The Watkins Family return continues a tradition started by Donald and Judy in gospel music more than 25 years ago. Their career spans numerous recordings, bluegrass music award nominations and chart songs.
