DOVE AWARD WINNERS
The 2008 GMA Dove Awards' presentation event was held Wednesday night at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville, TN. Southern Gospel Winners:

Southern Gospel Recorded Song - “Get Away Jordan” - Ernie Haase & Signature Sound
Bluegrass Recorded Song - “He’s In Control - Austins Bridge
Country Album of the Year - "Big Sky" - The Isaacs
Inspirational Album - "I Love To Tell the Story-A Hymns Collection" - Mark Lowry
Southern Gospel Album - "Get Away Jordan" - Ernie Haase & Signature Sound
Traditional Gospel Album - "Past & Present" - Lillie Knauls - Vine Records
Bluegrass Album - "Salt of the Earth" - Ricky Skaggs & The Whites
Choral Collection - Let The Redeemed Say So - Lari Goss; Word Music

The Dove Awards closed with a nod to the historic stage they took place on – with a “Opry at the Doves” – starting with Ricky Skaggs and The Whites with “Solid Rock” and Southern gospel favorites Jeff and Sheri Easter, The Hoppers and Karen Peck and New River singing “I Wouldn’t Take Nothin” and then the rousing finale: Charlie Daniels leading a “choir” of artists including Third Day’s Mac Powell, The Isaacs, Angella Christie to close the evening’s festivities with the classic “I’ll Fly Away.”

To Bill and Betty:
In response to your comments...Austins Bridge's "He's In Control" was nominated for, and awarded the "Bluegrass Recorded Song" based on the merits of the overall feel of the song. The vocal stylings and harmonies are definitely bluegrass, AND the instrumentals speak for themselves - again, very traditional bluegrass...thus, the nomination and the award in that category. Betty: Yes, AB does OTHER songs that are definitely "Rascal Flatts-ish", but THIS song would be filed under "Buegrass".

Along with being a musician myself, I am a big fan of Austins Bridge, and also enjoy many genres of music from classical to contemporary, including bluegrass, as long as it's done "well". No "bad-grass" (bluegrass done badly) for me, please!

Congratulations to all of the winners in the Southern Gospel categories!
